Since this is now out for a little while, hopefully someone can help me.

I set up APC to accept payments on my X. My son sent me 50.00 as a test. Has an X also.

I tried to use it for a 73.00 purchase at Dorothy Lane Market. One the early Apple Pay adopters in my area and always worked. I double tapped side button and then tapped on the APC card. My regular bank card I use with Apple Pay is still the default Apple Card in my iPhone. The transaction did not go thru. Said the card was not accepted and try another card. Thought this automatically worked where ever Apple Pay worked. And, assumed if the purchase was more than on Apple Pay card it would take the 50.00 and asked for another payment method for balance. The way it usually works with regular charge cards.

What did i do wrong, if anything?

Thanks

Well that will suck---

Although this store takes all credit cards.

If the store accepts physical Discover cards it should also accept APC.

In any case, you can just transfer the money to your bank account and keep using your regular Apple Pay card for retail purchases. Honestly I don't see much sense in using the APC balance for purchases (besides the potential hassle of split payments you also forego points/cashback that many credit cards provide).

Yeah, not sure on how split payments will work. I am not going to use this much. Just thought it quicker to use at a store today instead of sending to my bank.

I did not have Verify ID done yet. Maybe that was issue. Although, when I set it up initially it said I was good to go.

Some stores can't do the automatic split payment for gift/prepaid cards, so you'd likely have to tell them how much exactly to take from it. This assumes that the transaction was actually declined by the issuer instead of the terminal spitting out some sort of read error, of course.

I think I did a split sale there before. I would have to ask store manager on the declining.

I did my ID Verification. May try again at another store with under 50.00 purchase. Since only 50.00 on APC.

This is not something I need to do very often. Seldom actually. But, wanted to try it. If it fails again I will call bank and maybe Apple Support. Then, last resort, just transfer to bank account.

If the store accepts physical Discover cards it should also accept APC.

Not quite. The store needs to support Contactless Discover for the APC card to work. Even if the store takes Discover my swiping and inserting, and even the store takes contactless payments in general, this does not mean they can necessarily take contactless Discover.

I used APC to buy a coffee at Starbucks. It went fine.

Had 47.75 left. Went to Apple store to buy my son a leather case for the new iPhone his brother gave him. 48.26 with tax. Apple Store would not process transaction. Called Apple Support. Apparently the store doesn't split payments with the Discover Debit Card used with APC. Unlike iTunes with my regular credit cards and Apple Pay. And other retailers.

I hope when I use this at a retailer they will take the left over amount on APC and ask for a second method to pay balance. Otherwise this is useless for my needs. I let Apple Support know that when I was on the phone with them.

Anyone else make split payments with APC at retailers?

Thanks

As mentioned, the issue may have been how that particular store had Discover contactless set up. I primarily use a Discover card and it's generally pretty good with in-store Apple Pay, but didn't work at Starbucks our the cafeteria at work initially (it does now), and doesn't work at Subway. When I did try it there, the terminal gave an error that EMV wasn't working and to swipe instead (a MasterCard worked fine with Apple Pay). As Apple Pay Cash is a Discover Debit card behind the scenes, I suspect a similar issue could be the cause.

The other issue may be the splitting payments as you're thinking - can you buy something smaller just to see if it works with a transaction that is less than your Apple Pay Cash balance?

It has worked at Starbucks and Office Depot. The first time it failed I didn't have it set up all the way.

It didn't work at Bob Evans. But, it has been it or miss there for AP in general.

Still haven't got to trying a split payment.

[doublepost=1518080274][/doublepost]Yes you can split cards using Apple Pay. Its the same as inserting the card through the chip reader. But for some reason, Apple Pay cash discover debit isn’t accepted everywhere. I thought it was going to be accepted anywhere that accepted Apple Pay. Then I thought that the reason why it didn’t work was because that store didn’t accept discover. After finding out that the store did accept Discover, I realized that its just the Apple Pay cash card that isn’t accepted. So Apple Pay cash isn’t ready for real world use. Its a miserable fail by Apple. So ill keep using my regular Visa cards through Apple Pay but the new Apple Pay cash isn’t ready for use at the moment. I’d wait until 2019 to start using the cash card at stores.
