Apple Pay in OS X

I prefer to do my on-line shopping on my Mac instead of my iDevices. Could we see Apple Pay added to the Mac and what would it require?

Could we get a USB Finger Print reader?

Could the iPhone's Finger Print reader use Continuity to approve on the Mac?

Can the secure tokens be keep on a Mac or would it require an new chipset?

Are there any other issues involved?

It seems adding Apple Pay to the Mac would open another huge revenue stream for Apple.

Most definitely it will be added to the Mac at some point, but we don't know how they will implement it.

They might not implement it since the iPad and iPhone are meant to be post-PC devices, for shopping and the like. More so than the Mac.

It is kind of already there, just not in the form you described.

Go to this screen in Safari preferences and click the edit button next to Credit Cards and add your card there. It is stored encrypted in the OS X Keychain app.

Then when you shop online in Safari and get to the credit card field you just click there and a prompt will come up asking if you want to use the info from that save credit card. You just click the card you want and it enters the data in the web site fields for you and you are done.

But I want to use tokens to pay with. You are still sending your CC number/info to the merchant.

Also I use 1Password which is a little more convenient than Keychain.

Seems like Apple would be all over it. An easy 0.15% revenue stream and great way to promote Mac sales. 'Switch to a Mac and get free protected Apple Pay'.

Maybe to Apple's advantage to give Apple Pay a little more time to become establish. However it seems to 'just work' as advertised and is receiving glowing accolades for simplicity and security.

I don't think it's significantly easier or more secure than PayPal or a prepaid credit card.

Obviously you have never used Apple Pay or understand how it works. It only requires one step (unless you want a select a non default card) to use so it's impossible to be easier. Also the security measures far exceed PayPal or a CC.

Now come on, you want Apple to come up with something new that isn't linked to "if you want this cool new feature you need a new Mac" type marketing? Is it nice under that rock?

Seriously though, yeah, as I said above some sort of integration with Handoff/TouchID would be great.

I would love for it to use continuity with touch id on my iPhone. Something will happen, I think. It's just a matter of when.
