Hi there,

I have a new iPhone 8 Plus and Apple Pay isn't working on it properly.

All my cards are authorised and the phone accepts my finger print, however the phone and card reader don't seem to connect.

I've tried:
  • restarting the phone,
  • taking off the case,
  • using a different card (I've tried three with different banks),
  • using different card readers in different retailers.
A few days ago, it eventually worked after a very long delay. However today I couldn't get it to work at all.

Any help would be appreciated. I am running iOS 11.2.6 and my phone has recently been set up as a new phone (a few weeks ago) when I had a different iPhone (also an 8 Plus but I returned it due to unrelated issues).

Thank you,

Shaun.

Where are you from?

You need to ensure the following -

1. The cards are really authorised and supports Apple Pay.

2. Ensure the merchant supports Apple Pay

3. Ensure the card readers support Apple Pay.

Just randomly trying at places won’t work. You actually need to know if they do support that method of payment.

Yes the cards are really authorised and verified. The merchants support Apple Pay and contactless and the transactions were below the £30 limit for contactless.

The card readers support contactless payments and I have paid using an iPhone X and iPhone 7 Plus in the same retailers.

I'd first of all speak to your bank/card issuer to see if they've any record of any transaction attempts. Next I'd delete the cards from the wallet and add just one back and try with that again.

Failing that, reach out to Apple - there may be an intermittent hardware issue on your 8 that needs resolving.

My 7+ had a hardware fault with the NFC..

Replaced promptly by Apple!

If all of that is checked then could be a hardware issue. My 8 plus never failed.
