Has anyone had experience with getting a refund at Best Buy when using Apple Pay. I bought an item at Best Buy last week using my debit card through Apple Pay and I returned the item yesterday. The man said the refund would show up back on my card within a few days.

I am concerned because from what I understand there is one time use token that is used instead of my card number to complete the transaction. If this is the case how will Best Buy's system know to get the money back to my card when it doesn't really have my card number. I don't fully understand how this technology works so I may be worrying for nothing and the money may come. Anyone experience a refund yet at Best Buy?

I have not done it at Best Buy but I got a refund on something I bought with Apple Pay at Home Depot and it worked just like a regular credit card refund. So there must be a record kept by the bank matching that generated token with the real account number.

While Apple Pay uses one-time security codes, the "virtual" credit card number it uses is persistent at least as long as the card is provisioned on your device (and the banks keep track of the number for a while longer even after it's no longer used). It's called "Device Account Number". You can see its last four digits under Card Information if you pull up the card in Wallet and push the "i" button.

No worries. The Apple Pay infrastructure is designed to process refunds in exactly the same way as if you had used a physical card.

[doublepost=1483247736][/doublepost]I am experiencing no refunds on my credit after 3 weeks now from Abercrombie using Apple Pay. Abercrombie said they processed the refund , Amex has no transaction of such. I am worried that because I had reset my settings all wallet gone before I return my items, device number was no longer valid, I
am not getting my refunds, and it's exactly what's happening. Amex said it will take 6-8 weeks to investigate this. I would stay clear of using Apple Pay, since there is no way we can tell what's happening in between. Not like pay pal where you can see the pay pal transaction. Grr , I have made many apple pay orders too and not getting refunds. I should have known not to fix my iPhone with the reset settings.

I had an Apple Pay refund issue - at an Apple Store! It was a nightmare to sort out because Apple insisted it was my bank's problem, and the bank insisted it was Apple's problem. Apple gave me an ARN number for the refund, which I had to give to my bank. The bank had no trace of that ARN/transaction at all. I finally spoke to the Apple Store manager and it was escalated to the finance department in corporate, and after a few days they 'corrected the issue' and the money appeared. So it was Apple's fault.

No explanation of what happened though, and no offer of compensation or anything. Literally hours of my time wasted on it. I'll probably use my card for big purchases now.

This is exactly what happened to me. I did an online purchase using Apple Pay from Abercrombie and did the return to the store. It has been 3 weeks and still no funds. I put a dispute but it was too late, I was charged already. I've been calling Abercrombie and they couldn't help either. What's wrong with ApplePay. They were able to charge with no problem. Whay can't they refund it back. They didn't use any Devie number or anything to do the return though. All they used was my physical card.

With AMEX, you can't dispute anything until it's actually been charged to your account. i.e. you can't dispute a pending charge. So you're not too late. If you open an official dispute on this charge, the charge will appear on your statement, but the amount of it (while it's being investigated) will be removed from any minimum payment required, and you won't be charged any interest.

Below is how Apple sys in-store returns should work. Wonder if A&F taking your AMEX card number (instead of your Device Account Number) messed up their system.

Actually it's Visa.. I put partial dispute since I didn't return the entire order. I already paid the bill for that period that's what I meant by I was too late. :(
Iam pretty sure the cashier didn't use this procedure you sent. I 'll call them and let them know. they were investigating the issue. the more unfortunate thing is that my phone gltiched/showed black screen few days after retrn and I had to change my phone which means my Wallet and Device number is gone and I've got new number now. But since they didn't use the old Device number I don't think that matters much either.
