Any dual users or former users of one or the other that can chime in on these payment methods?

I am due for an upgrade soon from my 5s and payment is going to be my deciding factor on the device I choose.

Is one method more acceptable than the other? Are these payment methods available at many stores or is it just luck of the draw and too soon for any phone payment method?

I've used both, since at home we got a LG G3 and an iPhone 6.

Basically any merchant who accept NFC payments with the card/signal/wifi thingy symbol, you'll be able to use your phone to pay (unless it's broken or disabled)

Google Wallet let's you add any cards - huge plus while Apple Pay needs to have your bank/financial institution approved by them first before you can add your card to your phone.

However, Google Wallet only has a 4 digit PIN for security purposes when purchasing while Apple Pay uses TouchID when purchasing - to me that's a huge plus.

I haven't really used both of them on a daily basis yet, but when I do I find myself having the Apple Pay work seamlessly than Google Wallet. My .02

That helps, thanks. I had the impression they were both their own systems. Basically if there is an NFC terminal, any "vehicle" to send the signal if you will gets the job done.

Well not any with Apple Pay. They need to be set up for it. There's a whole thread on it in iOS 8 sub-forum.

Question: I have an Amex card in Apple Pay wallet. What happens if I try to use it at a store that doesn't take Amex?

Probably the same thing that would happen if you tried to use your actual card. There's no agreement with the merchant and AmEx. You'd get some sort of error.

My vote goes to Apple Pay only because Android Pay doesn't even support my bank (Huntington). Plus with TouchID it is much easier. My droid turbo doesn't have fingerprint sensor so I would have to use a pin even if I could use Android Pay. Convenience factor goes to Apple Pay as well.

Got an iPhone 6s plus about two weeks ago and setup Apple Pay on my Amex. I haven't been in any store that accepts it yet so no idea how well it works. Amex sent me a card with a chip last summer. Almost no stores are even setup to use that either, I can only remember about two in the past 6 months.

I do like the notifications that pop up on the phone whenever I use my Amex card in the traditional way though.

Apple pay is awesome and until you try it you don't realise how quick and easy it is.

I used it on my phone and watch and wow is it quick. So much better on my watch as you don't need to worry about getting anything out your pocket.

Have used both and both have pluses and minuses. Google Wallet is replaced by Android Pay.
I am however using Samsung Pay (Note 5) at the moment and it flat out works better than either (I still have Apple Pay on my 6S+). It is limited to a few top end Samsung phones though.

That information is a bit outdated.

Google Wallet can't be used for NFC payments, that was Google's legacy NFC payment system which they shut down in favor of Android Pay. Wallet is still an app but only used to send money between friends or use your Wallet card, not for NFC payments.

Android Pay only accepts certain cards like Apple Pay, and there is no PIN, when your phone is unlocked you just tap and it pays. No need to open an app or enter a PIN. It does require a secure lockscreen though.

I have Android Pay and huntington, but... Android pay lets me use any card. The only thing is I have to enter my pin where if Huntington participated, then I could use my fingerprint. For the 2 extra seconds it takes to type my pin, no big deal.

To a previous poster, you either take these systems or you don't. Apple Pay, Android Pay, and Samsung pay all work anywhere that takes NFC payments. The back end processes have nothing to do with the merchant.

I have to admit though, Samsung's payment def has an edge of Apple or Google being that it will make the phone word on any terminal with a mag stripe. BUT.... like Apple Pay, the bank has to be participating. Google is the only one with a work around for that.

Wrong... Android pay you can use any card. BUT you will have to use a pin on the payment terminal (not the phone).
