I've just changed banks and have a new debit card and new credit card. So I'm currently trying to delete the old cards that no longer exist and move my subscriptions to different cards.

It's a complete mess. I have the 1 year free trial of Apple TV+ assigned to one of the old cards and because of this I can't delete that card. You can't change the card assigned, only cancel the free trial - which I'm only a few months in to.

I'm currently on a live chat to an advisor to try and sort it out - they just keep telling me to do everything I've already done and then send them a screenshot of the resulting failure.

Coming from Android, this is the first major failing from Apple. On Android/Google Pay, you could edit, delete, swap, have different cards for each subscription, switch them round, switch them back, delete them - do anything with your payment methods - really easily.

Anyone got any advice to make it work? The cards have been deleted from Apple Pay already, but they can't be deleted from the payments screen in the app stores or manage account settings page.

Is the Apple TV+ free trial the only one you're having trouble with? Could you just leave it be, as the old card's information shouldn't be needed before Apple wants to bill you for the service some time next year. You could cancel it two days before the trial runs out, then (if you want) re-sub with the new card.

Sounds like the trial is the only issue. So just set up a reminder to cancel the trial a day or two before the end date. Then delete the old card.
I have a feeling it's the same on any platform when you are on a free trial, that the provider would lock your card that you specified to be charged after the trial.

To avoid further potential frustrations I would advise you to not get the Apple Credit card. You do not want Goldman Sachs in your life.

It’s definitely because of the trial. Weird thing is, I cancelled my Apple Music then re-subscribed and the subscription went back onto one of the old cards that don’t exist - I didn’t get any other option.

That's a bigger problem then. I'm not sure how recently your old cards were cancelled, or how long you waited before re-subbing to Apple Music (a minute? A day?), but if you're in a hurry then I'd recommend contacting Apple about it.

If you only see your new card under you Apple ID's payment details then there's not much else you can do (other than wait). If your old cards are no longer valid, then Apple shouldn't be able to charge them and undoubtedly when they try something in the system will kick in.

It might also be worth it to double check with your old bank that the cards really are cancelled, or how long it will take for the cancellation to be in effect (again, I don't know what your timeline looks like).
