iPad Pro Apple Pencil 2nd Gen - Tap to Switch

For those using the 2nd Gen Apple Pencil - what are your thoughts on the tap functionality?

Personally I’m finding it more annoying than useful - too sensitive for switching tools. I try to rotate the pencil so i’m not accidentally switching it too much, but it naturally gets into a position where my index finger rests on the flat edge and it will switch tools just as i’m getting into it.

Just curious if others are finding this out as well or is it just me holding it wrong.

I should note that it’s really only an issue with longer drawing / writing sessions.

It is a bit too sensitive, I agree - I hope they adjust that. I often accidentally activate the gesture without wanting to.

With that said, once I got used to it, no going back. I often witch between my brush and eraser tools in drawing apps, and it’s really useful to me. Again, it took some getting used to, but now it’s my fastest way of switching between brushes and erasers.

For what it's worth, I haven't had any problem. However, I haven't done any drawing or writing sessions of more than a couple hours at a stretch (or at a sketch?), so my use case doesn't match yours in that regard.

One button press instead of two touch taps is easier to intentionally trigger and more difficult to unintentionally trigger (if button is made and placed correctly). But that’s too utilitarian for the Apple Pencil and probably for Apple in general.
Double tap is definitely better than nothing though. I agree, it would help if the sensitivity was adjustable.

It doesn’t even have to be visibly a button - like the current Surface Pen, it could be hidden in the same place the tap sensor is now.

On an Apple Pencil (2nd generation), you can double-tapthe lower section of Apple Pencil to quickly switch back to the tool you used last. To change your settings for double-tap, go to Settings > Apple Pencil, then choose between: Switch between current tool and eraser.

Yep - mine is currently Off, but I go back and fourth depending on my mood.
