The logo for the 4/20 event hints at possibly a new Apple Pencil. Currently the 2020 iPad Pro can only use Gen 2 pencil. Also, the gen 2 was not supported on older iPads at the time it was released. So it begs the question: Will an Apple Pencil 3 be supported only on 2021 and newer iPads or will it also support iPads that support Gen 2 pencil? Thoughts?

Will the Apple Pencil 3 be able to detect real-world colors and use those colors on the digital canvas?

Never mind

We can’t answer that question. The pencil is not out yet and Apple hasn’t announced one either. Hold onto your horses until next Tuesday

Because you like to tip on the forehead of grandma with it to get the skin color right? ? Seriously, use a/the camera and an app like this.
That method is more complicated. Judging by the spring colors for the Apple logo invite and the fact that it was drawn with an Apple Pencil, I think Apple is hinting at the Apple Pencil being able to detect spring colors and put them on the canvas. ;)

Because it's easier to sell a Pencil than an iPad and a Pencil.

I think any iPad that supports Apple Pencils can use the new one. Maybe there will be a new feature which requires iPadOS15 in which case iPads stuck on 14 won't get that new feature, but all the legacy features will work.
We won't know until Tuesday.

I’m guessing it will be supported by 2018 and up, we’ll see who is right at the announcement lol :D
To me it doesn't make sense for Apple to do with Pencil 3 what they did to Pencil 2, as with Pencil 2 they seemed to be ushering in a new era and we seem to still be in that particular era right now.

They would probably want you to buy the Magic Keyboard and Pencil 3 whether you are on 2018, 2020 or 2021 iPad Pro.

They did it with the Magic Keyboard. Also, what if the Apple Pencil 3 yet again ushers in a new era?

As I said earlier...

My point of this poll was to get predictions. It was just some fun speculation ??‍♂️?

We will see what tomorrow brings.

I hope they remain compatible. The break from the Pencil 1 made some sense. You couldn't charge a Pencil 2 if you owned an older iPad Pro and then Apple removed the lightning port so you'd struggle to charge a Pencil 1 on the newer devices.

I can't see Apple changing the charging method, so that reason is out of the question. Now having features only available on certain devices might be a possibility.

Doesn’t seem like Pencil 3 was announced or did I miss it? I was too busy drooling at the iPad Pro 12.9 1TB and 2TB.

Looks like Magic Keyboard stays the same (with new colour added) and Pencil stays the same.
