I’m currently using the iOS 13.1 beta and I just noticed that the Apple pencil now seems to support force touch. If I tap on a link for example with a bit more force, the long press menu comes up much quicker then when tapping lightly. I haven’t heard anything about this addition. Was this already present in iOS 13? I tried googling it but I couldn’t find anything.

I hadn’t noticed this before, but it certainly does work with db2!

Using iPP 11 & Pencil 2.

Yeah me neither, I just decided to try it for some reason, but I didn’t know beforehand about this feature. I’m also almost sure this wasn’t present before as I remember thinking it would be a great feature to add.

Can anyone confirm whether it works with the original Apple Pencil 1? Thanks

This is likely due to the conversion from Force Touch to Haptic Touch. Touch duration, not pressure, is the trigger.

No it is not, I have tried. I can tap very quickly on links or icons and still get the “long press” menu if I tap slightly harder with the Apple Pencil. Try it for yourself.

I have the Apple Pencil 1 so yeah it should work. But as I said a I am currently using iOS 13.1. I’m not sure if it is working on older versions as I couldn’t find any documentation on when the feature was added.

Can you gradually apply and release pressure without invoking the menu? Or does the menu just show up quicker when applying pressure?

For me the menu always shows up, but if I press hard it comes up more quickly.

It doesn’t seem to be 3d touch like in the sense that you can gradually build it up like on the iPhone. It just comes up quicker if you apply more pressure.

Truthfully, it comes up fast either way. I really don’t see a difference

The difference is that you can literally just tap a link or an app if you do it with a little bit more force and the menu comes up right away. It maybe a small time difference but I like having control over it personally.
