I ordered an iPad Pro a few weeks ago and I’m thinking of buying my first iPad Pro accessory.

I’m between the second gen Apple Pencil and the Logitech Folio Touch keyboard.

For now, I only have the budget to buy one of them. I’m a student, what do you think will be most useful for me?

I already have a Bluetooth keyboard that I can use while I get the keyboard case.

Get the pencil if you already have the bluetooth keyboard. I’m sure you’ll enjoy having all your notes on your iPad. I do. Very useful.

Bluetooth keyboard better than folio. Not for portability, but for typing.

I’m not a student. But I remember more from meetings when I pencil vs typing. Plus you can doodle.

You could use any keyboard for typing but you can only use one pencil for writing.

Obviously it depends on how you use an iPad but Ive seen a lot of students fall in love with the pencil for iPad notes but use an actual computer for papers and research.

Thank you so much for your replies. I decided to get the Apple Pencil first.

I have a computer, and while I plan to replace it mostly with my iPad, I can use it for a bit longer. On the other hand, I’d enjoy doing note-taking with an Apple Pencil.

You made the right choice. I am using a bluetooth keyboard that I purchased years ago for my old 3rd gen iPad and the Magic Mouse 2 on the iPad. Both work amazingly well. I purchased the pencil and it’s awesome for taking notes, etc. The combination of all these tools makes the iPad Pro a true productivity powerhouse.

It’s funny. I see all of these suggestions about using the Apple Pencil for taking notes in class. I have two kids that recently finished college and one that is a sophomore. They almost never see students using iPads for school work or note taking. I ask them every semester thinking it just has to catch on soon. But they keep reporting that all they see are laptops, text books and ringed paper notebooks. Rarely, an iPad.

Admittedly, a small sample size, but it makes me wonder why there isn’t greater adoption by college students.

I just picked up an off brand Apple pencil clone that works really well for my needs, for $20. Right now I'm just starting to mess around with Procreate and take notes, so it's perfect for me, and I also have the keyboard for when I want to type (most of my note taking is done on the keyboard). If you want to just try out the pencil functionality but don't want to spend the full price on one yet, might be worth your time to try out. And if you end up using it all the time, then invest in the full priced Apple Pencil.

Sound like a good idea. I think I’ll do that. Thanks.
