Does apple photos know and apply lens corrections to RAW files?
I’m looking for my Canon R5 the RF 14-35 F4 and see comments related to vignetting. Back in the day, Apple Aperture did apply lens correction files to images.
No, I don’t have an adobe account, I just wanna live in apple photos on my Mac laptop. Simple 1-stop workflow desired .

Photos will only apply things like distortion correction when the raw file itself contains the embedded profile/instructions to do so. Many modern lenses from Nikon, Canon, Sony, etc have these, but not sure if your specific lens/camera combo does. I did a quick (but not extensive) check around but couldn’t get anything definitive. The Apple raw engine doesn’t have bespoke lens correction profiles, to my knowledge, at least for lenses released post Aperture. DxO used to have an app extension for Photos that did that but it hasn’t been updated in 5 years.

It looks like you haven’t bought the lens so maybe download some raw files from dpreview to see if the images look good in Photos. While not taken with an R5, if they look good to your eye, or similar to the jpeg rendering on the dpreview site, corrections are likely being applied.

Thx for feedback, I decided to go for this soon to be released UWA 10-20 instead, expected release is November . Guess I’ll deal with my concern if it truly matters then.

I’m not typically an ultra-wide shooter, but images they produce are undeniably useful sometimes and occasionally startling. Will be intriguing to see how this lens performs; I have the 15-35 and it’s great.
