I don't understand the difference between selecting a playlist and selecting a song and creating a radio station from that song. Is the "radio station" from that song also curated? or is it just an algorithm.

The playlists from the "For You" tab are human-curated. You can see up front which songs are going to be played. You can add the playlist to "My Music" and you can copy the playlist to one of your own playlists.

The radio stations are - for all we know - created by an algorithm. From what I have seen so far, you can always see only the next song, so you cannot add a radio station into one of your own playlists to save it (unless you do it song by song).
