there sure are a lot of people anxious to get theirs, which I can totally understand. I'm coming from a 10 year old dell (it didn't even have usb 2.0 ports if that gives you any indication). I haven't had a home computer since it died close to 8 months ago. Tons of photos and videos waiting to download, not to mention I haven't been able to update my iPods in forever...

BUT...the last thing I want is them to rush out my computer. I'm going to have this thing for a long time; I'd rather get it in January if it means addressing issues and insuring that everything works as it should.

IMO.

amen to that.

wow you wait til spider web inside your computer before you upgrade. what a quantum leap, to go from 10 yr old dell to imac 27. what happen to you? anything happen in your life recently?
share the good news.

been planning to upgrade for years, just was never the top priority. Wife and I have gotten into photography over the past year (and also bought an HD camcorder), so a nice bonus at work was my excuse to finally order something up.

went onto this site the night before I was going to order, and saw the impending update, so decided to wait. Then once they launched, I realized for a small uptick I'd rather get the upgraded chip (i5 for me) and video card.

Now just patiently waiting!

And I thought I was getting a huge upgrade replacing my 11/2004 1.8ghz G5 iMac, yeesh

I'm in no rush. Apple, take your time. I'll just use my 17" unibody until the iMac gets here. I will test it out thoroughly in the first 14 days and if it has issues its back to Apple for a refund.

I highly doubt that the I7's will have the same issues as the other 27" base models have. Apple must want to save a little face I would think. Especially with the high end quads. At least I hope!!

Great post. Thank You.

Too many of us are making a huge
investment with these new 27" iMacs
(i5 and i7). They need to be perfect.

There are too many reported problems
with the current wave of 27" iMacs and
we don't need them repeated in the
high end line.

I just sold my Mac Pro desktop so I am
without a desktop, forced to do all my
business on my Macbook Pro. Not the
worst thing in the world, but I need a
desktop.

However, like all of you, I am willing to
wait this out and hope Apple takes their
time getting these new iMacs out. They
should be tested fully.

I feel the same way. I've got a 7 year old Dell with XP. Over time I had added a second hard drive, went from 512MB of RAM to 2GB, and upgraded from an old CRT to a 19" LCD. It's served me well, but it's slowed down as it's gained more junk, it occasionally gets a Blue Screen of Death and has to be restarted, and the start-up takes about 5 minutes. On top of that, the hard drive is starting to make funny noises which REALLY prompted me to look for a new computer.

I've been waiting for months for the iMac to be updated and then it happened. I'm going to wait a little longer to get an i5. I'd love to have it today, but as long as it comes before my Dell hard drive finally dies I'll be OK. I already use my wife's early 2008 Macbook Pro so I know that I'm going to love the switch.

This used to drive me nuts about PCs - I was always very anal about keeping my PCs clean and free of extraneous registry entries, deleted app system files, unnecessary taskbar items and other garbage, b/c if you let things go, a clean OS reinstall is needed to get things running well again.

None of those worries with OSX, btw. You will love it.
