iPhone apple podcasts app - not showing the correct "up next" episode

can anyone help with making the apple podcasts app show the correct "next" unplayed episode?
it seems always put the most recent unplayed episode as the next one to watch rather than the next unplayed episode based on release date.

i've tried changing the sort order of each podcast to "older > newer" and "newer > older" and neither seem to make any difference.

eg, the app is showing "RHLSTP 325" as the "up next" for this podcast, yet i have unplayed episodes that are older than this. i haven't listed to RHLSTP 318 yet (i have listened to episode inbetween 318 and 325 though.

Don’t have an answer for that, but the Podcast redesign is so terrible and plagued with so many issues that I’ve given up on it and experimenting with the alternatives. Having tried four or so of the popular ones, Apple’s podcast app seems even more ridiculous than it did before. That it could even make it out the door is enough for me to not regain faith that Apple is employing anyone in design, UI or app programming depts. Previous versions weren’t great but were usable. Shades of other Apple apps they broke it in ten places in the name of…I have no idea.

Apparently there's a few fixes coming in 14.6.

But yeah this is probably the weakest app they've produced. If they'd have just looked at a few other apps first they could have come up with a winner
