Not Adobe-like Apple will make Appleworks compete with MS Works, this new app could compete MS Picture It! Digital image Pro 7.0-This cvould be a advanced vesion-not sure. But MS Works/Picture it! (better than apple's iphoto)/Encarta is the reason why I own a PC.

Well this PICTURE IT! DIGITAL IMAGE PRO 7 program comes with Alien Skin (makes eye candy software for photoshop) plugins-and supports photoshop plugins. Costs $
229 in Australia- more than half the price of PS 7.

competing with adobe for that market would be a horrible mistake...(aka...apple never will). Remember, apple is in the business of software And hardware. However, what they really sell is the Mac platform. To try and compete on every front wouldnt be a good idea. Competition with microsoft is good, because they are trying to sell onther platform...windows. But trying to take over the already mac flooded market of image manipulation would only hurt them in the sense that adobe would have to think twice about support for the mac. Why f@$# over one of your biggest and longest sofware development supporters?

That's probably true. Final Cut Pro has done more than a little damage to the Adobe Premiere market. Does it matter that Adobe wasn't moving forward?

However, the final product is more respect for digital video editing on Macintosh, which is something that was almost non-existant.
 
FCP doesn't cut into the PC market share of Adobe, but it has taken the mac world by storm. FCP can be fully integrated into the adobie sweet, however, and photoshop/after effects are still meat and potatoes to DV makers.

The people who lose here are Avid, a common copetitor for apple and adobe. unfortunately, this probably has something to do with why we haven't seen Quark for X yet. Avid must have some cost issue, because $1700 is hardly competitive with $1000. Apple is being agressive with software, and utilizing dealer stratagies, get em when their young. The student verion of FCp is only $300 bucks, a full 700 off list. Avid Xpress is only a couple hundred off, which one its a struggling student of film maker going to take?

I'm sure that apple and adobe have some sort of agreement going, I don;t thik apple should try to kill photoshop.
 
The Microsoft product I stated is coming soon, along with Works 7 (I use version 6.0 on my celeron, myt dad uses a 47.xc version, 4.5). Its portfolio is a lot like the clippings feature in AW, its like iPhoto, but with the image editing/sharing features. And at $ 139 (AUD), It's about the same price as Apple Aus. sells AW 6.2x

I'm confused... Do you think that before FCP there wasn't much editing done on Macs?

There was a lot of editing done on the mac before that. They used Premiere instead.
