As an industry, i like Apple's motive, they are more likely to help u if you have all Apple products, and will bend over backwards for that.

However, if u are using one piece of third party hardware in between,, i found the experience is not so good. They tend to lead more towards zero in on the third party product (eg hard drive, printer) surrounding the issue u are having eg "fail to print" for example. "Well, its more likely to be a printer issue because its from Cannon."

Whats your experience with Apple support and third party hardware?

It's very hit and miss. Windows does a much better job at working with 3rd party hardware. OS X is on the brink of being a closed ecosystem like iOS.

That's their strength, Living within the Apple ecosystem has its benefits.

Sporadic at best, its really up to the hardware manufacturer. For instance, I have an Epson scanner, they no longer supply drivers/supplies. I have to use the much more limited apple apps.

Don't blame Microsoft, Apple, Ubuntu, etc for third-party hardware issues. It's the third-party's problem to deal with.

I have had hardware that when plugged in, would blue screen Windows. I had to find an updated driver on the internet. Sometimes these things are going to be bug ridden.

Apple sells an ecosystem if that's not for you Apple is not for you.
That's it, if you veer away from Apple provided services, then the user experience will not be as good. They want you to use all apple products/services. In a sense, you do get a great deal of integration and efficiency when you do.

I wouldn't say go that far... If they made an 'eco-system', then have also have control which hardware their products will work with.. The fact they don't limit their hardware to *their* products (ie Airport Extreme) only to Apple devices only, means its not as tight as one would think.

But its still works better if its Apple hardware
