Apple Pulls iMac Software Update 1.2

I know this is already in the iMac Update 1.3 thread but I just want to make sure people see it.

If you go to the apple software update site, you will find that all links to the iMac Software update 1.2 are either broken or missing.

Software Update itself no longer reports it.

The downloads in these links no longer work:

Isn't this normal policy? I can't get older Airport Extreme firmware on the Apple site, just the latest and greatest. Since 1.3 should supersede 1.2 it makes sense that it's gone.
 
The reason apple pulled the update is after installing the v 1.2 update i installed leopard and it doesn't work. The installer just kind of bricks your imac. Mine took several hours to fix. Apple didn't want to have further problems.

What's it matter if it's firmware or software. It seems to me to be Apples policy to pull superseded software/firmware off their site once a new revision is to be had.

I'm sure there was a 1.2 for Leopard, just not related to the 1.2 for Tiger ;)

Actually no... There was never an update called 1.2 released for 10.5

Yep. Version 982823 is less than 982824. It got rolled into Gold Master. Those numbers are of no consequence.. I just typed out a random interval.

If you have an XP disc and then an XP SP2 disc, is one not an update of the other? SP2 is just 'integrated' into the original disc, now.

The EFI Firmware Update 1.2 is here:

Note the date and the size.


The iMac Software Update 1.2 (no longer downloadable) and 1.3 are here:

http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/

Note the respective sizes. Both were issued last week at the same time. These are two different things.

I was never discussing the EFI firmware. I was saying from my experience when Apple updates the Airport Base station firmware they take the old ones out. It would only make sense to remove superseded software updates once newer ones have been pushed out.

You can clearly see that one update is for Tiger and one update is for Leopard. Both were released at the same time. The one for Tiger is no longer available. There is no "superseded". Its gone. If you run Tiger the Leopard one will not show up in software update.

I'm not refuting that. The guy above said there was no 1.2 Leopard update, in which I refuted that there likely WAS, it just got rolled into Gold Master.

There is no 1.3 for 10.4

and

There is no 1.2 for 10.5

PERIOD


Additionally your XP example is irrelevant. That is like saying XP is an "update" to 2000...

Makes no sense...

SP2 is an update because it was made available after XP was released. Any additions to the OS before it was released to the public are NOT updates, just part of the build....



PLEASE, go into your system update log and show me where you have update 1.2 installed under Leopard...

If you can show me that, then I will shut up.

I'm wrong? I think not. I think you are missguided here. Apples update naming convention is numerical, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10. etc. That means, even though the first available update for Leopard is marked 1.3, a 1.1 and a 1.2 came along before it. Whether it ultimately got rolled into the GM is irrelevant.
 
The 1.2 update did not do anything for me one way or another...that I can tell. My machine is as stable as it was before the release. I have not updated the firmware though.

It was supposed to improve the speed of the graphics card as well. I gained about 5% in an OpenGL test. I also gained a little extra stability (after several reboots and PRAM resets) but it was not enough for me to hang on to the machine so its going to be repaired.
 
interesting, they did make the link to the download unworkable.

I am glad i got the 1.2 iMac software upgrade, as I still use Tiger.

I am one of the fortunate(!?) ones to have the base model iMac–20 inch, 2.0, with the 2400 graphics card. I have never suffered from the freezing problem.

My main point is that with my base model iMac (2400 video card) the 1.2 upgrade seemed to significantly improve the video performance of my machine.
