It's time to get a new one. Don't you know Apple doesn't allow you to use their products beyond a certain point?

Good point! I also discovered that the FaceTime on this thing is broken. Maybe it never worked?
Probably. I like Apple products but I'll be the first to admit they are brutal.
I get the sense I'm renting their products and that I don't really own them, they do.
They force you to do stuff. Like if I don't upgrade to iOS 7, they'll download it automatically onto my 16GB iPhone and take up 3 GB.
If I do update to the latest iOS, I risk it slowing down the iPhone significantly.
If I say forget it, I'll just keep iOS 6 and see what happens, they'll take away FaceTime.
It's like they're in control even though the sale is finished and they have already sold you the product.
Back in the day when Jailbreaking was useful, they fought hard to stop that. It's like really?! I paid good money for the device, I can do anything I want with it!
Then of course, you can't download a video recording app on iPhone 3G because, according to Steve Jobs, the 2mp camera isn't good enough.
Apparently, it's good enough AFTER the iPhone 3G S is released with video recording being the selling point.
Then you can spend $1 on a video recording app and get it on the 3G.
I'm actually in the process of hunting for a FW cable so that I can charge this puppy up!

I hear what you're saying about the iOS updates. I loved my original 64gb first-gen iPad for years but iOS updates slowly ruined it. For the most part I don't mind though and I guess that's what Fruit banks on.

I thought they dropped support for these things in the latest iTunes version (iTunes 11)?
You might wanna plug it into another computer and make sure it still syncs with iTunes before you start investing in TB -> FW adapters and stuff.

That is definitely not happening. This was just a little joke...
I didn't know that support was dropped from iTunes though. That seems pointless. How much could it possibly hurt to continue including support?!
iTunes, for me, is hopelessly slow anyway. I barely use it anymore since simple browsing is so slow and clunky. I have a few hundred movies, tv shows, and tons of music in there which means that I can't even scroll the cover art without stuttering and jerks.
I have one of this kind and it still charges trough FW and works OK.
I don't care that is enormous as compared to present tiny ones.
My risk to lose it in some pocket or not to see it below a magazine is much less probable.
I don't like tiny things because of that.
My USB sticks have all some kind of cord, strap or anything hanging so I can more easily find one.
As long as this old device works why not use it?
A Revox reel to reel tape recorder is MUCH bigger but still many people love them and pay money to buy one. And that is 50 year old hardware!
I am not a software engineer, but I would hazard a guess that it bloats the code and keeps vectors for security attacks open, which are used by very few people.
