Just bought a refurb from the Apple store and I'm very happy. It doesn't matter to me that it's older technology--it will do what I want and saves $$$$. Only $750 vs $1000. Good deal to me....

I just saw those prices too and it's messing with my wallet.

My original plan:
$1600 - 13" MBA 256GB
$100 - SuperDrive
$100 - 1.5TB Portable External
$1800 - TOTAL

But now I'm considering a
$1100 - 13" MBP
$750 - Refurb 11" MBA 2010
$1850 - TOTAL

I really want the new Air but the 2nd option may be more practical.

I'm really stuck on what to do. I'd rather save $250 as my usage of the air probably won't ever push the CPU limits.

I really want the 4GB option, so I guess I'd need to find one off ebay as the refurb doesn't have the base model with 4GB.

I'm confused and don't know what to do.

I'm confused too, haha. I don't know if I should get the $750 one and then an iMac around Christmas for heavier computing (video editing) or get the new 13" MBA and use it for light editing. Don't know what to do! Haha

Just a heads up--there's no guarantee how long the refurbs will be available on the Apple website. That's what prompted me to buy from there today. It actually said "limited quantity available" on the listing when I purchased early this am. Could be just something added there to convince you to buy but they may indeed be low on refurb stock.

I also considered eBay and I know you can get great deals there from time to time but I like the idea of a brand new machine with 1 year warranty.

With eBay machines I would wonder about battery and SSD life as you don't know how much it's been used even if the device is in pristine condition. That's what stopped me from buying there..

I agree...I would probably be jumping on a refurb if they had the based with only the 4GB option.

I'm looking at either a 2GB 64GB 2010 for $750 or a 4GB 64GB 2011 for $1099.

$350 difference...is it worth it.

I think that it depends on what you want to do. I want to use the Mac Air for Keynote presentations, word processing, surfing the web, light photo editing, and maybe a little iMovie. I think the 2 GB will work for those as my iPad has less and still handles them fine. I'm not going to be doing heavy CPU tasks.

If you want to do something more intensive on the laptop it might be worth the 4 GB upgrade. I considered that also because 4 gb is always better than 2 GB but the refurb 4GB price is almost the same as the new model so settled for the cheaper model that will be good enough for what I need as it saves me money.

It's possible eBay or online refurbishers would have the 2010 4gb model cheaper than the Apple store. I guess it all boils down to where you want to purchase..

Thats a good question--I'm not sure if any Mac laptop have ever been on clearance. Someone out there who is a longer term Mac buyer may be able to answer that...
