So, plan to buy apple refurbished ipads, simple questions, are refurbished products sealed in box? Or there is no seal, so ine can not find out whether it was already open or not?

thx.

I'm quite sure that apple wouldn't sell unopened stock as refurbished

They are sealed exactly as new, with the only difference of the word ‘Refurbished’ written in small letters somewhere on the box or on the label.

Most of the discussion I’ve seen has said that refurbished kit came in special packaging as per what the Store information.

However, when I got my Apple Watch through the refurb store, the packaging was the regular packaging and was sealed. At that time, UK Store seemed to have lots of that model and strap in stock - it was around the time a new model was launched and I did wonder whether Apple was clearing inventory.

In the UK, I have a feeling that even if a box is unopened, the product can not be sold as new when it’s returned.

When they replace a faulty unit with a refurbished one, it comes in a special box, or even no box at all.

When you buy from the official Apple Refurbished store, it comes with a standard sealed retail box (with the word ‘refurbished‘ written somewhere).

They are not sold as new, they are sold as refurbished.

My watch was purchased through the UK refurbished store but the box did not say refurbished. Rather surprised but there you go.

Yes, my iPhone box does not either, but all the other refurbished equipment I have bought do (Macs, iPads and Watches).
I wander if sometimes they use the refurb store just to get rid of some new overstock at a discount.

I've bought plenty of refurbished Macs and other Apple products over the years. I've always gotten a kind of plain version of the packaging, but otherwise it's totally sealed and contains exactly what the retail box contains.

Same here, I bought a refurbished iPad and instead of the picture on the box, it had a grey rounded rectangle with "Apple Certified Refurbished" or something. Aside from the box art, everything else was same as retail, and box was sealed.

Apple certified refurbished iPad box from Apple US online store. It was wrapped with the sealed plastic film when I got it.

The sealed brown box I think, or was it white? My Ipad pro came in a sealed box and looked and worked like new.

Many times a refurb can be better than new.

All refurb items go through a process where all external casing etc. is replaced, and the internals are checked to make sure they're 100% functional.

Outside the box, you'd never know they were refurbished.

Well, not ALL refurb items have their case replaced.

The Apple Watch, for example, has neither its case nor its battery replaced — unlike the iPad and iPhone. Here's how Apple puts it.

“You will receive a “like new” device with genuine Apple replacement parts (as needed) that has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. Refurbished iOS devices will come with new battery and outer shell.”
Note: It only mentions iOS devices as getting a new battery and new shell.

Here's the blurb on the Watch.

”What goes into a refurbished Apple Watch.

All refurbished Apple Watch models are backed by a one-year warranty, free delivery and returns, and also include:

  • Full functional testing and a thorough cleaning
  • The original Operating System or a more recent version1
  • All refurbished devices are repackaged in a brand new box with all accessories and cables2”

Wanted to add that in case someone gets the wrong idea!

The refurbs are a good way to save some money — and, critically, even for the Watch, come with a 1-year warranty and you can add Apple Care as well.

Is anyone familiar with how this works for company computers and service contracts?

I think my last two company Macs have come brand new in a retail box, shrink wrapped, packaged as new, etc., but they always come pre-loaded with company tools, and I've even had them arrive in pretty bad cosmetic condition before. I feel like if you're a large company and buy a lot of Macs for your employees, Apple must have a corporate program of some kind where they clean the machine up, throw some fresh cables in, re-wrap everything as new, and send it back out.

Is that accurate at all? Does anyone know how this works? Just curious.
