My headphones failed from the very beginning to reliably charge. I returned them twice. While the produce is described as "Reinforced design for sweat & water resistance during tough workouts", Apple will refuse to repair or service the product if any moisture is detected whatsoever regardless of any manufacturing or design defects. You can't have it both ways Apple - don't market a product for a use case that voids your warranty. I'm surrounded by Apple products having heavily invested in the ecosystem but will never consider buying another headphone product given the way Apple handled the situation. Their solution was to "repair" it for $249 - more than the going retail price.

Anyone else have a similar experience or way to escalate the issue? More than ready to join any class action suit.

You want to join/start a class action suit where you'll likely receive a check for $20-$30 in a few years and make a law firm a ton of money? Plus you'll still have a set of Pods that don't work.. I've been waiting for my $25 from the iPhone 6/6S battery suit for years and have squat to show for it...

Oh, I fully understand that I won’t be compensated fairly through that process and have no interest in enriching a law firm. Have you a better alternative to apply pressure to companies when they refuse to support product issues?

I suggest contacting tcook@apple.com
This will put you in touch with his executive relations group and should give you a better chance of getting your issue resolved.. I've used this method and have gotten good results...
