On the heels of updated HP printer drivers for Snow Leopard, Apple has now released similar updates for both Brother and Canon printers and multifunction devices.

- Brother Printer Drivers for Mac OS X v10.6, Version 2.1 weighs in at 95.52 MB and requires Mac OS X 10.6.1. The download offers updates for many of Brother printers that had already been supported, and adds support for a number of additional models.

- Canon Printer Drivers for Mac OS X v10.6, Version 2.1 weighs in at 274.59 MB and also requires Mac OS X 10.6.1. The download similarly updates drivers for a number of supported printers, while also adding support for a handful of additional models.

Users should check Apple's support document on Snow Leopard-compatible printer drivers to determine whether their printers are currently supported.

Still no support for ir series office photocopiers/scanners like the ir5055. So no SL for me yet...

(Keeping my eye on the Canon site - apparently they are only a week or two away)

Canon still hasn't fixed wifi printing for the MP series that was broken after SL.

You have to do a "Standard" install off the CD that comes with the printer, which forces an install of Rosetta, reboot, and then do an install of the new print drivers. Then go to add printer, click on "Windows Printers," and then click on "Default Printer." Click on Additional Printers at the bottom, and choose your MP printer.

A PITA, and VERY un-Apple like, but it works. I figured it out after getting my iMac to work fine, but my MacBook to still not see the printer...

Does anybody know . . .

if the Canon drivers include stuff for Canon scanners?

Software Update notified me that I need to install the Canon printer drivers.
However, I don't have a Canon printer - !! I do have a Canon LiDE 200
scanner.

The "InstalledPrinters.plist" file shows my HP LaserJet printer, and there's a
line for "CanoScan" as well.

I'm not anxious to install this Canon printer driver, mainly 'cuz I've already
downloaded a new scanner driver and use Hamrick's VueScan for all my
scanning needs.

Any idea what I'd gain or lose by doing the update?

Thanks . . .

Hi, I had that problem too. I eventually went into the filesystem and found the canon folder and deleted it. Then when I reinstalled the new driver I had more success. It was still a little flakey when it detected the printer, but it did. I have 2 entries, one for the bonjour scanner and one for the network printer (it is the same MP620 series device). The printer didn't always show up, but when it did I added it and it always works now. It's just some issue with finding it in the first place. Good luck.

I downloaded the new Canon drivers for SL today, not from their site but Apple support update. Finally got my fairly new
MP 620 to work wirelessly after reloading the Canon disc (except I did not download
the OLD drivers) and following the weird setup software.

errormessage

I had an error message upon installing the Canon update on Snow Leopard 10.6.1.

(badly) translated from Dutch:
'The system extension can't be used. The extension '/System/Library/Extensions/CNQL2410_ClassicNotSeize.kext' has not been correctly installed and can't be used. Install the extension again or contact the manufacturer for an update

my Canon ip4500 still works over airport express though

this is a big help for several of my customers

MF4690 Still MF-ing not working in SL

Had the Canon MF4690 working in 10.6 after I found the 2.0 drivers someone had posted here (much thanks, btw!).

Then I updated to 10.6.1 - couldn't get it to work. So, I downgraded to 10.6.
Still couldn't get it to work
Upgraded today to 10.6.1, then installed the 2.1 drivers - installs over USB just fine; however, can't get it to install plugged into my AEBS.

When I try to add it via the IP route, I get this dialog which seems to say all the right things.

But clicking on the ADD button does nothing. I clicked that ADD button at least 30 times before taking that screengrab.

Any ideas?

And yes, I'm sure 10.0.1.5 is the address of my the Canon. AEBS says so as well.

Oh, how nice it is to use the Apple's HP drivers over the ones offered by HP directly... I can't stand HP's bloatware... :D
Aren't drivers drivers, no matter who offers them?

Unless you mean not having to use HP printer software, which I agree is a bit bloated.

Hi, I thought I need to share this:

after hours of pointless fiddling with all the latest drivers provided by Canon or Apple, I eventually got my Canon MP600R to print wirelessly by installing the CUPS driver (http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0034886.asp?model=) and configuring the printer using the CUPS web interface (http://127.0.0.1:631/).

There are CUPS drivers for other wifi printer models as well.

thanks for this - i have the same printer and have held off installing sl until i am confident i can use the printer & scanner!

You mention printing above - does this work for the scanner as well?

You mention printing above - does this work for the scanner as well?

The scanner works with the regular scanner driver for SL provided by Canon (http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0035042.asp) and MP Navigator (http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0035127.asp) after running the Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector tool once (which is located in /Library/Application Support/Canon/ScanGear MP/Utility).

Due to a bug in MP Navigator, the one-click buttons do not work with the default settings. This is because the default locations for saving scanned files contain a space character (the default path is ~/Pictures/MP Navigator) and for some reason the software cannot handle this (I wonder if Canon test their software before releasing it). The remedy is to start MP Navigator, select the "One-click" tab, open both the Button Settings and the Preferences dialog and replace every occurence of ~/Pictures/MP Navigator with a path that contains no space characters (I changed everything to ~/Pictures/Scans).

Hopefully, these hiccups will be ironed out in upcoming releases. For now I'm glad everything works, even though it required a bit of fumbling.

I get the exact same message when I install pretty much anything, doesn't stop the install though.
