Apple Remote and Front Row

I own a G5 iMac and MBP sitting at different corners of the living room. Both have Front Row and the Apple Remote. I just noticed that both machines will react to the remote simultaneously. e.g. When I press "Menu" on a remote, both the iMac and the MBP will bring up the Front Row screen.

Is the remote supposed to work that way? What if I want a specific remote to work for a specific machine? Is that possible?

Yes it is suppose to work like that, but you can pair it to a specific machine.
