Wha? Wazzat? I was gonna get the new MBP but saw that for the apple remote i have to pay more? I thought it was 'free' before as with my MacBook?

There are several posts about this already however Apple has decided to no longer include the remote. Be honest with yourself would you REALLY use it? It's just not needed with a notebook and for presentations it's not very useful either since it requires dead-on line of sight.

At least you will only need to buy one instead of ending up with 3-4 remotes when you buy more macs.
