I hope i am posting in the right section, forgive me if i sound like i am bashing i am not actually bashing apple, i just thought it was interesting how over 15 people at a public library with macbook or macbook pros all can not play dvds or cds, or at least not the same ones, and i posted this thread asking if it is a OS issue since all these portable mac babes do not all have the same optical drive, if there is a solution or reason for this issue please do tell me, i would rather know their is a fix for all of us with the problem, all 3 of my machines optical drives fail to read brand new commercial dvds or cds., 2 of my machines, both portable do NOT read ay cd or dvds
at all.

Does everyone else have problems with their Optical drives since upgrading to LEO in general, all my drives seem very picky when it comes to any cd or dvd, at first i read threads of claims it was the brand, then i read claims it was only macbook pros, then only imacs, then only mac pros of a certain era, but all in all it started after upgrading to Leo,
i just went to the Public library to get a few audio cds and my imac ejected 8 out of 10 cds, my macbook pro 17 ejected all of them, the macbook we have also read cds and dvds which the imac and mbp 17 could not read, yet all the cds and dvds work on a old egg imac running Jaguar.,
And the hardware failure finger pointing Saga everywhere goes on, at the Public library about 7 owners of macbook or macbook pros suggested this was going on for ages and apple dodged it under the rug while continuing to sell their machines with cheap faulty optical drives prone to problems, i only got around 7 other mac owners to verify this but it sure sounds like a world wide recall of optical drives coming around the corner, anyone else?
i would list all the details of the machines that can not read average cds or dvds but i just paste the one i am one now for starts
Hardware Overview:
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac5,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 2 GB
