They were checked by their machine and failed. Does anyone know how this machine works? This is just out of interest really.

The replacements which were done in front of me, came out of a cardboard box, one for each side. They then took mine out of the case and put the new ones in. (at least im hoping the ones in the box were new and not the ones to be sent back) the reason I wonder is that on looking at them they had some dirt on the outside grills. Might be nothing but just made me wonder. An added bonus was they also gave all new tips in all sizes. Nothing to carry them in but that was sorted.

No setup was needed. Does just putting them in the case mean they are paired again with my iphone? Also does the serial number stay the same?

Thanks

Yes they are new. I had mine replaced recently and I asked the tech guy. I also asked about the test they perform and he said that they place it inside a calibration machine of some sort and that tests them internally.

Only thing I had to do was unpair my old AirPods and repair the new ones by pressing and holding the button in the back.

Thanks thats reassuring. I didnt have to pair mine though. The tech guy did press the button on the back but my phone didn't come out for any pairing or unpairing.
