Apple Replacement Policy?

Does anyone know what the time range on replacement is?

I just tried to backup my wife's Macbook via firewire and it seems that the port is dead. I can connect my G-Drive to my Mac Pro and my Macbook Pro without a problem. The Macbook doesn't see the drive. Also, starting it in target mode, the others do not see it. I've also tried two other 1394 drives, as well as starting my MBP and MP in target mode. All things point to the MB's 1395 being dead.

Unless you have bought AppleCare you have 1 year return-to-base coverage. You will have to send the machine to Apple/take it to an Apple store and they will replace the logic board. This will take a few days at least. Do not expect your data to survive this. You will need to back up via USB or the network.

I've already swapped in the stock hard drive, with a clean OS install.
Can the local Apple Store replace the logic board? Or are they going to send it out?

I think they can do it on site, but I'm not sure. Your machine will be in a queue even if they can do it in store...

Okay, I took my Macbook in to the store, they confirmed that the 1394 is dead. I called Applecare and they sent me a box ship it in.

I shipped it in Thursday, they received it in California on Friday.
On Friday evening the status was changed to "repair complete"
and a tracking number was listed....

I looked at the tracking number and the shipment is coming from TN!?

So, what happened? It was in California being repaired, and now is being shipped from TN back to me in California?

Are they sending me a new notebook? What happened to my memory and hard drive that I put in?

I think your computer made it to TN and has been repaired, same day turn around. It would take a skilled tech less than 30 min to replace a bad logic board.

You should always take that stuff out.

The shipping label was to "ACI" in "Elk Grove, CA" - shipped via DHL
The return tracking number is Fedex from TN to CA.
