I want to purchase a Mac Mini 2011 with IHD 3000, and plan on gaming just a bit. Cod 4, minecraft, battlefield 3( Low-med) settings. I was wondering if i should just get the intel hd 4000 graphics with the 2012, if it really is faster? has anyone compared the two? big difference?
my friend is selling me his Mac Mini Mid 2011 for $390 not sure if i should go for it.
thoughts?

The 4000 is better then the 3000 not the 6630 so the poll question is wrong. So you can not answer it correctly yes or no.

I own all three and I would rate the 6630m mac mini as best ever for graphics. the 4000 as a very close second and the 3000 as third.

as to whether some one that wants to game with a 2011 mini it is your friend play a game or two on the machine see if you like it. 390 usd is a good price Also that machine will run better with this ram

then any other ram it will run at 1600 speed giving a small boost to your graphics

this would also boost it

since it's integrated, RAM gives some juice to the CPU to allow faster graphics. am i correct?

False.

HD 4000 is slower than HD 3000 due to the ancient architecture.

I would agree whole heartedly with this statement. I play starcraft and some other basic staple games on my 2011 Mac Mini with the 6630m. I haven't ever been disappointed. My mini with the HD 3000 can play the same stuff but only at drastically lower settings. The HD4000 is far more competitive with my 6630m mac mini and does offer a lot of other benefits (quad core and USB 3) but it's not worth spending the money for me to upgrade my casual mini to a quad core at the expense of gpu performance.

obviously HD4000 is going to be faster but i want to know how much faster, if there will be any noticeable difference.

It's noticeable in starcraft.

Correct.
Maybe the HD 5000 will mean the "6630m killer".
I'd personally wait for the HD 6000 if I was to upgrade.

This or this could be a good starting point for comparison.

Remember that Haswell ≠ HD5000 per se
There is also HD4200, HD4600, and Iris Graphics.
So if the next Mini will have Iris, it will go way past the HD6630M of the 2011, if it is HD4200, it will be on par with that 2011 model. But since Apple picked HD5000 for the Air, the Mini will follow that perhaps. Apple is not a very active software driver writer.
