I have recently received a .xls file (for Excell, though I use NeoOffice) with names, adresses and so on of all students of my senior year in high school (about 160 students)

My question is, can you use some sort of script to transfer that data to vCards for adressbook? That would be a huge help. I am totally inexperienced when it comes to coding/scripting/ whatever it's called.

can someone tell me how to get started?

I've not tried this, but I think you just might be able to export the excel file as text and then import that into Address Book.

Back up your Address Book data first, and then try a bit different export settings from NeoOffice and see if Address Book will accept any of those...

Address Book imports delimited text files. Just save out the xls as a .csv or .tab and import into Address Book. No scripting needed.
