Well written response. I agree its rather douchey to compare -almost- ANYONE to Nazi's, though I for one would not be very comfortable with my employer going through my phone. . .
Did anyone catch this week's "Better Off Ted" on ABC? This thread reminded me of Veridian Dynamic's "extraction team" that handles fired employees.
Just because Apple cannot legally detain someone does not mean that they aren't like a fascist dictatorship that could. It just means that they are like a fascist dictatorship but without the power to detain someone.
Realistically, being fired for having potentially incriminating evidence on your cellphone could lead to being blackballed, which could be just as bad, depending on your occupation, as being detained by a fascist dictatorship.

Microsoft fired the person who took a photo of a shipment of Macs on MS campus loading dock.
The person thought he was fine because the photo contains no proprietary information about MS, and he made sure the photo contains no security features. MS fired the guy.
Now this story is about trade secret, which is guaranteed by US Federal Law. Any company is entitled to guard their trade secret. So you are saying Apple is evil by protecting what the law guarantees every company in the US?

Report: iPhone Leak Interrogations Drive Foxconn Employee to Suicide
The security team for Foxconn, the company that manufactures the iPhone for Apple, is said to have subjected employee Sun Danyong to "unbearable interrogation techniques," leading him to commit suicide. He was under investigation for losing a prototype device.
Foxconn has issued a statement on the matter, which, though creditable in its honesty, is chilling. The company is currently investigating a section chief of the Central Security Division for possibly using "inappropriate interrogation methods" in his investigation, including unannounced home searches, solitary confinement and physical violence.

...with Mac rumours very own resident heckling anti-fanboy sat at the side smugly gloating and dropping in pious rhetoric wherever possible.
Most large companies with sensitive information have these "Squads".
I worked at a very well known Financial company and watching them fire someone was downright scary.
At Night they would clean out the office of the person they were firing and change the locks on the doors (back when they had locks). When they showed up for work the next day, they would grab the badge and escort them out of the building. The company had someone sift through everything (even their personal stuff) and return it by mail when they had gone through everything.
I actually watched the head of my department get surprised / surprise them, because he showed up really early to get ready for a meeting. He was wandering around wondering how come he couldn't get into his office. It was pretty sad, because he was in my office when he put 2 + 2 together.
As for Apple...
In this day and age where every Asian vendor can duplicate your idea, sell it for 1/10th the price all by looking at a picture, there's a real need to keep things close to the vest. Things are slipping out the door all the time, it's just a matter of how public those secrets become. If the West coast is anything like the East Coast shops, you pretty much know someone in every major company.
The tragedy of the situation is that other Companies (especially Apple's overseas vendors) don't follow the same rules. It just goes to show how backwards some places still are...
You know I really admire your tenacity in this two year long anti-mac campaign of yours.
It must be very tiring to face such an onslaught of contempt from people who continually rally against your constant mac-baiting. I sincerely mean that since I specifically remember you saying your NOT paid to spread contra-opinion on behalf of Microsoft in these forums five to ten times a day every day for two years without fail or even a day off, so therefore it must be an absolutely tiring and thankless burden for you.

Speaking of myself, I openly confess that I am equally as deluded towards Apple as you are towards Microsoft/Nokia, although I do manage to restrict my own conceited Pro-Apple opinions exclusively to these Mac forums.

I'm not saying that Apple is unjustified, just that they're evil...or bad, or whatever wordage I used.
In all seriousness, I challenge you to find someone who thinks that these measures are good. Not that they are unnecessary, but that they are legitimately good policies to have.

I'm not a fan of any company because that would be crazy - if you root for a multinational corporation that doesn't care about you (unless you're a stockholder) then you're a moron. It's really that simple. I like some Apple products. I like some Nokia products and I like some Microsoft products. I don't give a toss about the companies.

Company issued devices (with the single exception of the personal headset that you had signed for upon employment) stayed where they were. You could however sit down plug in and log on anywhere you were authorized to be, and of course everything was networked.
And all was monitored and logged.
We were not to disclose exactly what we did to outsiders; just mention a brief, innocuous suitably general job title and description, not mentioning client company names.
It wasn't like the military where I couldn't even mention having a security clearance without the threat of QR&Os, anywhere at any time.

That's a personal point of view Bongo - it's not an absolute fact. Your saying that is like saying I can't love my car, or my boat or my landscaped garden or anything else fashioned by the hand and mind of man. I utterly shudder at the thought of a world filled with people who indulge in mass-consumerism without having a passion for the things they buy. That really is an absolute Orwellian nightmare. It's almost synonymous with the destruction of the human soul - to actually not CARE about something you work hard for to buy? Terrifying reality.
There is nothing wrong with admiring a corporation or the products it produces if that corporation strives towards a higher ideal. Whilst I recognise that most are simply mindless machines bent on nothing less than self-perpetuation and profit for profits sake and are without morals or ethics - thankfully Apple, whilst having certain of these traits, is not entirely that way (yet!) and seem to constantly be trying to improve.
So what I dig about Apple apart from it's great products - and I think a lot of people can identify with this - is it has a visible leader with decent human values - a family man (yes, I know he had a dodgy start but give the man a break he was young!) called Steve Jobs who founded the company on an ideal and that was to 'create a dent in the universe' and 'make the best computer possible'.
Why do you think everyone loves the Keynotes? They love hearing a man who is genuinely passionate about his products - they can see how one man has transformed a fading company and returned it to greatness - it's wonderful in a world otherwise jaded and cynical about everything, and unlike just about every other corporation around this one still appears to have a set of ideals that it holds to - that were born from it's founder.
If growing up is going to rid me of that then I'll stay eternally young, and I hope eternally free to choose with passion and enthusiasm. I hope one day you care enough about your products to put the level of passion into defending something you care about and not, as your previous declaration implies not caring about any of them as that really changed the entire motivation of your last two years worth of posts to simply trying to destroy something other people care about. Really I preferred it Bongo, when I thought you at least cared deeply about Microsoft. Now I know you don't care about any of them and are seemingly on a war against others holding dear. Please tell me that isn't so?
