I started the download yesterday around 6pm. It is now 3am and the thing is STILL downloading (still has 1.2GB left to download). I have paused and unpaused a few times for a few seconds each just to see if it kicks it into gear.

I've never experienced a download speed so bad from Apple, and apparently I'm not alone if threads at all the usual Mac sites are to be believed. Wonder what the issue is...

In any case, not much has changed from the version I'm already running, so I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it.

Thanks for your feedback. Don't know what your issue might have been. I have a 500 Mb/s downstream so my DL had no hick ups at all.

I wonder what the difference's are between the GM and the RC at all!

Cheers

Heh, @m4v3r1ck did I miss something? :) I don't see an e-mail, new purchase or an update. Where was the notification that there's a new bundle for the PB testers?
I got an email from Apple with a redemption code to download Sierra. I was on 16A312 now it's 16A320.

Ok, so this is no different than the GM then. (same e-mail went out to everyone for the GM).
Sorry guys...same story, duplicate thread.

https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...golden-master-to-public-beta-testers.1992996/

Edit: You could wonder about the delta's between the Dev GM (319) vs the PB GM (320).

You had me thinking we were getting an updated bundle by calling it a release candidate (and yes, I know the headline of the e-mail said that), but they still called it a GM build in the text of the e-mail.

"We are pleased to give you access to the iOS 10 and macOS Sierra final release candidates. We will be shipping the final versions to customers worldwide in the coming weeks and appreciate you trying out the releases and providing feedback.

You can install the iOS 10 GM candidate from Software Update. And you can get a redemption code for the macOS Sierra GM candidate from beta.apple.com and download it from the Mac App Store.

Thank you for participating in the Apple Beta Software Program and helping us make these releases our best yet."

Thanks for your insights!

So that's what I call very confusing! Why does Apple not just use the same names for the obvious same bundle, or are there some changes made for the RC aka GM?

Cheers

Heh...you think that's confusing? Look inside the info.plist of your installer. It'll actually say the bundle number is 16A319 (even though it's installing 16A320). The Dev GM says 16A318 and installs 16A319.
They have lots of inconsistencies they need to clean up. :)

They are not inconsistencies. What it means is that 16A319 was created on a computer with build 16A318 and 16A320 was created on a computer with build 16A319.

Thanks! But what about all those different GM/RC names for the bundles?

Cheers
I think that it's because the public beta testers might not know what GM stays for, so that's why they called it RC.
I don't know what's the changes between 16A319 and 16A320, but I couldn't activate the Auto Unlock feature on 16A319, so I'm happy with the new build.

Heh. Ok. :) It's not like customers should be nosing around in the packages anyways. :)

I have 319 on my MBP 2008 and the unlock works great (when my drivers aren't messing up) - something I'm still working on. (replaced the airport card) :)

I redeemed my code on my macbook air, and installed Sierra OS GM.
When I try on my desktop, says this code has already been redeemed. Any way around this? Or do I have to create a beta account with my wife apple account to get another code?

Just copy the installer from the MBA to your desktop Mac.

You don't use the code to redeem again. Just go under the Purchased tab in the App Store app and re-download it. You'll have to re-download if you already installed it because the installer deletes itself after installation.

For future reference, you can avoid the auto-deletion simply by cancelling the installation the first time, and moving the installer from inside the Applications folder to the Desktop (or whichever folder you want to keep it in), then open the installer from the new location. (It will only auto-delete if the installer is run from inside the Applications folder.)

NOTE: If you would like to keep this DMG as a virgin GM/RC released installer, move it to an external USB drive. Keeping it in the Applications Folder, MAS will auto change the installer to its newer build number preventing you to download/install this original GM.

Cheers

What's really unfortunate is that Release Notes are sorely lacking in detail. I've posted on Apple Developer forums before about that, with no reaction from the oompa loopas. Do you know of any source that "deep dives" into every release, peeling apart every diff in packages, extensions and SDKs? I know I can dump and diff the objects myself, inspecting every patch and release, but what a hassle...especially for those of us who have "payed up" developer accounts for years now.

Was APFS removed for the release candidate? Apple indicated they were not ready to offer this officially until 2017. Some speculated they only enabled it temporarily for dev testing.
