I just received an email from apple telling me my replacement iPod has shipped. It looks like a replacement for a 1st gen one but I never sent in any iPod to be replaced. Should I call them when I receive it?

Probably a scam. Are you sure the email is really from Apple? Whatever you do, be careful with any personal information that they may (or may not) ask for.

I've read a few other posts here about this. It seems like the replacement for the recalled Nanos is the new model.

Enjoy your new iPod!

Yes it from apple it has my name and adress and provides the new serial along with that of the replacement one. I have heard of new nanos as the replacements but I never sent an old one in to be replaced.

You should be able to log into apple support and see if there's anything listed there.

If you really didn't send anything in and they're sending you something out of error, please let them know. I dont know if they'd worry about having you return it but I'd hate to find out that mine, or someone else's, replacement is going to the wrong person and making the wait time possibly that much longer.

I just checked there and I see the repair for my MBA but I then also see a repair on december 11th for a replaced iPod Touch 4th gen at a store in TX that I did not do as I live in NJ and then I see the iPod nano request on Nov. 12 2011 and see that apple "received" the iPod on january 12 2012. I never sent one in so I don't know what they did.

Interesting. Looks like someone else may be using your Applecare ID (not sure if it's the same as your AppleID for iTunes). Could be a mistake on Apple's part, or it could be someone that's using your credentials.

You might want to double check your AppleID, just in case. You wouldn't want someone buying tons of crappy apps on your account. But then again, I'm kinda paranoid ....
