Apple sent me AppleCare?

Hi guys, happend to any of you to receive AppleCare without you asking?

I had just received a mail, from Apple that I purchased AppleCare, but I did not.

I bought my MBA the day after the released. I have not been charged - yet.

That is very strange! Most likely this was a shipping error if you didn't pay for it, but if AppleCare was really added to the computer that is pretty cool. You can always check online on Apple's website to see if you have it.

You're not supposed to question free stuff. You say "thank you" as if Apple could hear you, then you activate your complimentary 3-year AppleCare.

Even if you do somehow get charged for it, it's still a good thing to have. ;)

Maybe free Applecare due to logic board issue with Air

Possibly they know that, in light of the logic board issues that have surfaced with the new MBAs, you may need servicing down the road, so they're doing the right thing and offering the free Applecare. Maybe they haven't spelled out exactly what they're doing because they don't want to alert the media to the fact that the issues are so widespread. (Then again, maybe it's a spammy/virusy thing that didn't actually originate from Apple).

Widespread, light of logic board issues that have surfaced ? Seriously, making stuff up much ? :rolleyes: There was 1 video on Macrumors page 1 and very few reports in this forum.

I think the consensus is that these have been blown out of proportion..

I would contact Apple and check your credit card if you didn't intend to order AppleCare. You might have had a "helpful" salesperson put through an unauthorized purchase.

Well, whether is a good thing to have or not, is definetely not good that I get charged for stuff I did not ask.

I did indeed.

If I do get charged it will be on my statement within 3 to 5 days.

And I did not had any screen/board issue - just the woodpecker for about 20 seconds the second time I turned it on - and I never contacted Apple regarding this or any other matter.

Did you buy this in the UK? If so under the higher education agreement, I believe you have 3 years hardware warranty support and so this almost equivalent to having the APple Care extended service plan (exception is the extended phone support). So this may be why you have the warranty extension for "free"

The Higher EU and the *full blown* Applecare differences entail a bit more than phone support. IIRC Applecare includes shipping of a mac to a repair depot.

Check your credit card. If its free then keep it. If your conscience does hurt pass it on to any of us macrumors members :p

Nope. It really is just the 1 year phone support coverage vs. 3 year phone support coverage. Read here for more details:

Specifically note that under hardware repairs, for laptops, "collect and return service" is included.

Is your apple care serialized or it says at the bottom "Auto Enroll". If it's auto enroll, go to apple.com/support, register/view your apple care, enter your serial number of the mba and see it's auto enrolled for 3 years. Otherwise, just attach it, it's free.

Its just the free Higher Edu warranty, apple always send that email a few weeks after purchase of the computer and the warranty status updates here:

If it's just the HE free warranty, it should look like this pic, notice the phone support is only 1year but the hardware warranty is 3years:
