Have done a lot of googling and basically it sounds like Win7 does not like to play nice with Apple server but am hoping this has changed since last March.

New Sony Vaio Win 7 needs to connect to my Apple Xserve running server software 10.4.11. I go through all the normal things but I just get the error message: "The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted."

Help please.

Thanks to anyone responding.

Not sure what you mean by "play nice". SMB works perfectly as has been my experience.

Not Sure Either

Obviously I made a few mistakes.

I cannot get the windows 7 box to connect to my domain on an Apple Xserve running 10.4.11 server software.

I have no problem getting on my network but I cannot connect to the domain.

This seems to be a known issue. I have gone into security options and done that but it still does not connect to the domain.

Any help?

Thanks:eek:

That error looks like you are trying to connect via the Domain tools under the computer properties - is that right?

You can't do that if that is what you are doing - you can't join the domain like that. It is only for Active Directory.

You can map the SMB shares though - just make sure they are turned on with the OS X server
