Apple share of tablet market - from 95% down to 77%

Despite posting impressive sales of the iPad last quarter, Apple saw its tablet market share drop from 95 percent to 77 percent as shipments of Google Android-based tablets chipped away at the company's tablet dominance, a new report says.

I would think it would be better to look into this in a few years when it is not so much a one horse race.
 
Its kind of a duh thing.

2010, apple was the really the only successful computer maker to provide a tablet that people actually wanted. They couldn't keep them in stock.

The competition wasn't about to take that lying down and so by the end of 2010 other tablets have started hitting the market.

In 2011, apple's marketshare will decrease even further as other computer makers ready their answer to the iPad.

The competition is driving everyone to improve their products, so the winners are the consumers. Features are added and prices remain constant.

Not at all surprising. Eventually, the open platform will always win over the platform that only one player uses. The iOS platform will become a niche platform just as Mac OS (X) still is one today.

If you want to own a market, you have to open your platform to other players, just like Google and Microsoft license their software to whoever wants to make hardware and software for them. Divide et impera - divide and rule. Apple never understood this simple concept.

This was bound to happen. With the increase in popularity with Android, the GalaxyTab appears to be selling well. With more competitors releasing their tablet computers in the near future, Apple's market share will get even lower.

Maybe they can hold onto the majority, maybe not. With the sudden boom of Android phone owners I'm seeing, I'd say not in the long run.
 
This will crush all the members who thought Apple would maintain a 95% market share when others finally got around to shipping a tablet. :rolleyes:

It is a simple concept but your logic is flawed. You are operating under a false assumption. Apple have never sought to "own a market". There always have been, and always will be, products that are cheaper or that do not reflect the correct "design aesthetic" that Apple do not even try to compete with.

LOL funny post!!! Who is being negative?

I don't see this as a negative Apple article at all.. Once other manufacturers get their tablets out the door of course Apple's marketshare is going to fall. The pre-iPad tablet market kind of failed. The new tablet market has been kick started from a weak heart beat.

This is the real world where Apple isn't going maintain its sky high marketshare with virtually no competition.

Apple, never understanding that simple concept, managed to sell you a brand new iMac.

And an iPhone 3G.

I think he's the alter-ego of LTD. To be honest, I think he's the same person, in fact hes like jekyll and hyde for fanboys. During the day he's uber-fanboy LTD and at night he transforms into apple hater winni :p

It wouldn't surprise me if we were all being trolled by one genius behind the *LTD* and Winni accounts. They do have one thing in common, getting them to admit that their opinion may be misinformed is like trying to divide by zero.
 
Apple almost doubled their units sold and markershare drop. Profits are up so I'm guessing it's not a big deal for Apple.

Not 100% true as seen with the iPod. But, guess that is the exception due to other manufactures not basing their MP3 players off of one OS like they are now with Android.

Anyway, this isn't surprising and hardly a doom and gloom moment for Apple fanboys. A 95% marketshare is expected when you are practically the only tablet maker in the market. Now that there is competition( and good competition at that), is it really surprising the iPad fell to 77%?

Well its hard to take him serious and its bind boggling to think any human being would have such love, devotion and blind following directed towards a multibillion dollar corporation..

His posts are so fantastical and they generally fail to add to a conversation, that I've put him on my ignore list a while ago and it makes reading these threads in the Apple, Industry and Internet Discussion forum much more enjoyable.
