I ordered an Apple TV back on feb 8. paid over night shipping. was supposed to be here monday. well on tuesday i finally call apple and they said they needed a verbal confirmation from me. the email never mentioned this or anything. when i called they said i needed to go home and call them from my home, which is the number on my credit card. so i leave work and run home to call. when i call back i was on hold for 25 minutes. then when i get a hold of someone they tell me i didnt need to go home to call. so they remburse me the overnight fee and said they sent one out over night. this morning i track it and it is in hong kong. wont be here until friday....obviously not over not shipping. thanks apple.

That sucks. I ordered my on Feb 9th and it shipped out from California on Tuesday. I think Monday was President's Day so the mail didn't run then, but Fed Ex says it's arriving on Friday (I did standard shipping).

The call-in restriction was forced on you by your Credit Card company. As for the shipping, they more than likely thought there were enough in the US, but there aren't since people are snatching them up now that Take 2 was released. Once it gets here, it will be over night, once it gets through customs.

the scary thing, but good news, is that FEDEX does overnight flights from Shanghai to the US, so you might get it sooner than you think. I'd assume that Apple has the same arrangement for HK.

don't blame apple. blame SAP. my guess is that more units were ordered than were available, so your order hadn't moved to the next step yet where the warehouse processes it. and the junior person who answered the phone didn't realize it was an inventory problem, and just blamed it on a credit hold which is the easier thing to do.

i never ever ever had to call in for my credit card before.

I use to be able to say that as well - not anymore. Almost all my purchases over $100 online - and every time if they are oversees for any amount - require a call to the credit card company. THey do this to stop fraud - which is good - but it sure does make it hard to buy imported rare Depeche Mode CDs:)

This is NOT the fault of APPLE.

Your CREDIT CARD COMPANY is at fault for this rule.

It is how they PROTECT you!!!!!

Yup they protect you be DELAYING your merchandise.

Go figure!!!!

Now go change the title to the thread to refelect the TRUTH !!!

New Title ---> My CREDIT CARD Company Sucks !!!!!!

They refunded your shipping, what's the big deal? If you are in the US, why not just hit an Apple Store? Delays happen sometimes...

closest apple store is in albuquerque which is 196 miles away

Sounds like the first girl ran your credit card and got back a code that required some form of verification - credit card companies frequently use the HOME PHONE number for customer verification.

Many card companies use Caller ID ( phone # ) info for security purposes.

These companies will require you call from your Home Phone to activate a card. If you call in from your Home Phone to obtain account info, they may ask for only the last 4 digits of the acct#, or SSN. If you call in from another phone, they want you to input the entire 16 digit acct #.

The computer checks Caller ID info with your Home Phone #, or the number they have on file for you.

Blame Apple if you must, but it sure sounds like a something a Credit Card company would do.

I can say that every time I order from Apple, I use normal shipping and the stuff is here in 2 days. It ships from a warehouse in Pennsylvania.

Order from MacMall and you'll see that things can be worse.

Agreed with the other posts here. It's your credit card company, not Apple.

Actually, it's how they protect themselves because they've been made to protect you, which is overall a good thing. Credit card companies are liable for any fradulent use of your card (minus a $50 or $100 deduction), which is why you're far better off using your credit card than a debit card in any situation where you think it might be stolen/cloned. Debit cards have no such liability rule.

This is why credit card companies spend so much money tracking patterns and locking people out when something weird happens. They are liable, therefore the risk is their's, therefore they cover their ass. I'd argue this is most certainly a good thing in general, even though it's occasionally a pain in the ass when they're over zealous, or you do something weird intentionally.
