Apple should add a ebook reader icon and sell books from itunes

Apple should do this-like the ipod but opens up ebooks with coverflow. perhaps even use the ipod player itself?

They would sell them (some would be free) from itunes

Its good the developers are making book reader apps but I love the fact that everything could be in one place from itunes.

With all these book readers stanza, classic books etc its becoming too fragmented.

This could be a huge opportunity for apple and publishers and it's looking like it could be a goldmine.

If apple did it there would be more choice and a standard format.

yes i wonder why.. maybe it's the whole crap about iTunes not being there to make money just to boost sells.. maybe they just can't make millions of books like they do with music?

They have something just like this for all your PDF files. It's called Papers and it is geared toward people like physicians or scientists/researchers. Currently, there is only a desktop version. It will organize all your pdf scientific articles like iTunes. Right now, they are currently working on an iPhone version

What do you mean not enough books???

There are far more books that CD's , DVD's and apps. After all printing has been around for 1000's of years.

Apple should do this. It is far more convenient to read on the iphone that a book and could boost book sales.

I take it you haven't seen the "Books" section of the App Store or don't have it down under. You can either buy certain books or collections, or you can buy (some are free) the readers like Stanza that are mentioned.

Considering how this still hasn't been embraced very well by publishers, not to mention authors like J.K. Rowling, doesn't help much. Most of what's out there is stuff that is so old that it's not copyrighted any longer. It's basically the struggle that music and movie/TV lovers had to fight in the past decade.

See I like the Harry Potter books, but I don't want to have to keep up with the actual book if I want to read on the road somewhere. I would love some sort of "digital copy" system with popular books of today that protects the author's work but yet lets us people who spent $25 on the darn thing take it with us on a freakin' phone or iPod.

So in other words, your idea is already in practice. But publishers don't want to lose control/money to iTunes just like others already have. They hate those annoying better ideas that come along.

Why aren't physical books coming with a digital copy, if available, like movies and vinyls are? It doesn't seem like it would be difficult for Amazon to do with the copies they have for Kindle, assuming the legalities are worked out. I would be particularly interested in this now that there's the Kindle app for iPhone.

I am quite happy using eReader and doubt that I would use whatever Apple came up with.
