I’m seeing lots of Twitter posts exposing scammy apps like this metronome app that has a weekly subscription of $7 and no way to even get into the app without signing up for a free trial.

In my opinion apps like this shouldn’t be allowed. I know Apple wants to stay as far away from pricing decisions as possible but these are just scams. And a lot of these scammy apps are featured ads when you search on the App Store so they’re the first thing you see. I don’t think Apple should allow weekly subscriptions. And the should definitely scrutinize apps that have higher monthly/yearly subscriptions. Some of these clearly are scams that shouldn’t be in the store.

How is this a scam exactly? The screenshot you posted is very clear on the terms. I mean really clear, nothing secret about it. What is the issue?

All these apps moving to subscriptions is annoying.

I’ve tried downloading 5 wallpaper apps and every single one of them requires a subscription. You only get one wallpaper before it starts bugging you to subscribe to unlock everything. Freaking ridiculous.

Normally I'm a free market kind of guy and as along as there's no fine print and no hidden gotchas I say "it's fair". But this is the Apple ecosystem we're talking about and discernment and self-control aren't in abundance (because many expect Apple to make these kind of calls for them). Because of that, Apple shouldn't allow these types of apps in their store.
