I think it's more likely that Nintendo would make a virtual console app and some sort of controler for the Apple TV and other iOS and android devices... it would also be cool if Nintendo put game saves in the cloud.., then you could play your virtual console games on any device... or they could even offer a monthly service charge to have access to all virtual console titles... I think this is eventually going to happen because Nintendo will make $$$$
Apple isn't going to buy Nintendo because they are not for sale. Nintendo can keep new games that are exclusive to the switch and release older virtual console titles on all platforms as well as making controllers for portable devices... the switch is not as powerful as Xbox and PS4... but who cares, it's a better format. I think Nintendo understands that people don't want to be tied to their TV.
Eh, they are doing things differently.I've thought that was a good idea for a long time. It's also fun to mention in social media because it drives the Nintendo fanatics up the wall. Nintendo is having a hard time completing in the hardware realm. Likewise Apple has no gaming IP or game developers. Together they seems like a potential good match.

Can you imagine playing a game like Breath of the Wild on an iOS device with on screen controls? *shudder*
I had assumed by looking at you avatar haha, and I doubt you would be alone in that!!! Apple could reach so many people with their embedded user base whilst Nintendo morph into a software only focused company that feeds Apple new games.I'd pay for any classic Zelda, Pokémon or Mario port in a Virtual Console app for tvOS / iOS.
The issue is attach rate for 3rd party controllers/peripherals. If a developer can't be promised that a device is included with the system, how can they require that control mechanism (especially when dealing with digital games). Look at lego dimensions as an example, it needs the base station so that game isn't sold digitally. How would Apple sell such a game?Couldn't agree more with you about the onscreen controls that are lacking. Although, there are a butt load of third party accessories available for iOS and many controllers that could be seen as better than what Nintendo offer on the DS/Switch etc.
Proposal:
Apple buys out Nintendo games and it's back catalogue whilst Nintendo retains the rights and receives royalties for any game purchases. Back catalogue is emulated on iOS and charged small fee per game (or implement a 'Nintendo' game subscription like EA Access on Xbox) Then moving forward, the wii/switch/etc titles are launched on the ATV whilst third parties get in on the accessories? (Steel Series/Turtle Beach/Razor etc)

Personally, I prefer the graphics of XOne/PS4 and would absolutely love to see Nintendo raise their game in this regard. Being taken away from worrying about hardware, they could then focus on bridging that gap.
