According to the article, the last time such a move was made Apple signed up for Windows Benchmarking Consortium, less than two weeks later we had Boot Camp. The more significant part of this for me is the "mobile phone apps" bit. So could we be looking at more of a SmartPhone, dare I say the word, Newton-style.

Let the rumours spread.

I though Macintosh makes iPods? Maybe they're the ones that are gonna make this phone thingy.

No Apple makes Macintoshes. That is Apple's line of computers. Apple also makes iPods and the phone that they will be releasing soon.

Uh, the Khronos group did recently take over the responsibility of maintaining the OpenGL standard. It's more likely that Apple joined because of that. Slashdot link.
