I have been checking the Retail Checker everyday since Saturday night, and it seems that so far, most stores got them on Sunday, a little more than half got them on Monday, around half got them on Tuesday, and now it seems like shipments have taken a huge drop, with most stores in New York and the whole of California not getting any. Is Apple going the PS3 route and slowing down shipments to create hype? Because my Apple Store hasn't gotten any iPhones since Saturday morning....:(

Supposedly they're rotating which stores get shipments, and also, today is a holiday, so don't freak out just yet.

A few NY stores got shipments yesterday.

I think Apple is managing the inventory carefully and as fairly as possible. Reports state that they are beginning to fill web orders.

I would bet that ATT stores will get some inventory soon.

This is a word of mouth product after the initial hype. Based on me having one and demoing it, 3 people in my office plan on buying one now. They had no plans to buy a $600 phone until they got to play with it. I must have demoed it to 20 people at work.

Expect a second rush of sales as stock replenishes.

There's probably a legitimate shortage I mean if these analyst guess are correct.

They are filling web orders. Mine shipped today from China via FedEx and delivery is now "by July 9th." Here us the latest FedEx tracking data...this indicates delivery by 10:30 on the 6th.

It does look like the launch-stock is gone, so now they're filling orders directly from where they manufacture it (like they do with iPods orders) via the web store.

I imagine they wouldn't have been certain before launch how the 4GB vs 8GB sales would have compared, so might not have been keen on building up a large stockpile.

If reports I've seen are any indication (one estimated 95% sold were 8GB models) it might affect short-term supplies.

My Illinois Apple store is open today. Alledgedly got in their shipment of 8gb last night despite a red dot on the availability site. IDK why people seem to think their stores are closed today.

My Apple Store is open today, too. It just seems that my Apple Store isn't getting any iPhones, which makes me a sad panda.:(

I seriously doubt Apple is holding back. Apple reports sales at the end of the month at their financial conference call. The ONE thing they don't want to do is say, "demand is great, but production is slow." To financial analysts that means potentially lost sales which means they'll take down AAPL's price. No, what Apple wants at the end of the month is to be able to announce a huge, ginormous sales number that will truly rock the NASDAQ building off it's foundation. You have to sell product to get there though.

You can't truly compare PS3 to the iPhone b/c the PS3 to a huge conglomerate like Sony is like a case of beer to you and me. OTOH the iPhone represents a real chuck of Apple's earnings. They can't afford to not make as many units as they can and get them into willing buyer's hands. Besides Apple's hype machine is so well oiled it doesn't need to resort to "low stock" trickery.

I'm sure Apple ramped up the iPhone a couple months ago and the factory was making them non-stop. At this point, with that huge launch supply almost gone it might take a week or two to fully restock stores. Apple seems to be shipping phones as soon as they are made.

I dont think they are nessacarily slowing down shipments but they not going to pump out half a million iPhones for the following weeks I think you are going to see a steady amount of shipments.

Why care about supply? This iphone regardless of sales is going to be well supported by apple. If you have one you have one.

Today might be an exception due to the fact that its a holiday. I'm not sure if FedEx/UPS is closed today or not, but we might not see anything come in today in Apple stores.

There should be a thread for iphone availabilities from actual people who were/are in the store, instead of waiting for Apple to update their site at 9pm each night! Thats all I'm doing lately is trying to find where I can get an iphone! arrgh!

Same with me... I am just trying to find one. If I did, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

95% doesn't make sense

95% doesn't make sense. That would mean that there are unsold 4gb or apple made significantly more 8gb ones than 4gb. Neither of which seem true.

Hi all,

Call your local stores, the apple online indicators don't work. I called the one store in my area that reported that they had phones in stock and they didn't have any. The store I was hoping to have some that showed they had none online, has phones in stock. I can't go till morning now so they may not have any, I have to go to work soon.
