Hi only after a week of using my Apple Smart Keyboard my Space Bar is starting to show some wear on the right side. At first I believed it to be just a stain that I would be able to remove but now that I´ve tried removing it I am starting to believe it some kind of wear. It´s not a huge deal but I find it really strange because I am really careful with it.

Although it´s not a big deal, I am afraid in the future it may tear or something. Has anyone else had this type of issue with theirs?

Thanks

Mine gets dusty at times and try and wipe it every now and then. Think depends where you keep it can get dirty

That's really strange, I usually clean the keyboard and I always leave it on the IPP. I've realized the damaged zone is where I press the space bar most of the time, but I don't do anything that could damage it. Although it doesn't bother me a lot, I am afraid of it getting worse after some time

Return it to Apple.

Any minor evidence on my keyboards that result from my using them, are not a bother. I'm not interested in displaying them, it's not artwork, they're my tools to get the job done. While I'm careful not to drop or damage my Apple gear, I bought them to use and enjoy. It's as simple as that. Why get stressed?

As I stated, it doesn't bother me that much, but if just after a couple of weeks of regular use the keyboard starts showing some wear of this kind, I may doubt of the quality of the product and it's much more probable that it may tear in the future

When you type hard or fast, or both in my case, wear and tear is inevitable. It doesn't mean that you're ruining your keyboard with your filth-encrusted hands, it just means that you do a lot with your keyboard. Take pride in the shiny spots! ;)

My keyboard did the same thing after the second or third day of use. I've had it since launch and haven't noticed any issues besides the obvious cosmetic looks.

Really depends on how greasy/oily/sweaty your skin is, I have seen keyboards that are shined up because of the users greasy/oily/sweaty skin this looks just like that. Not much you can do as skin oil is a part of life, just clean it more often if you have particularly greasy/oily/sweaty skin. Although, in the pic it looks like you have been scrubbing it with a brillo pad across the whole keyboard.

I am having the same issues with mine. Started about a week or so after purchasing and seems to be linked to where my fingernails rub the keys as I type. Space bar is by far the worst as I hit it on an angle when I type. I don't have particularly greasy or dirty hands and I've cleaned the keyboard to no avail.

I was thinking of returning but odds are it will just happen again.

It's par for the course given the material used in the ASK. The same thing happens with the Surface TypeCover. It's annoying but not much that can be done.

I don´t think my skin is particularly greasy and I doubt that is the reason because even when I usea a wet wipe to clean it or whatever I use that doesn´t remove it, also the rest of the keyboard is showing no issuesat all, if grease was the reason all keys would be "greasy"

I have the exact same thing. Also on the Shift key. It’s annoying because it appeared a day or two after I got the ASK, which makes it seem like a defect. Also I’m “OCD” (not really) so it bothers me...but I’m trying to ignore it.

If it did that in the short period of time you have owned it, it will likely get worst.

Mine did the same thing, though over about six months. The weird cheap feeling material they use doesn't hold up very well to either my gross greasy pizza fingers or my hand sanitizer obsession. Zero functional issues though

Mine looked like this like a day after using it. I just look at it like “yeah that thing looks broken in and used now like i get stuff done, son”

I have a 2nd gen iPad Pro 12.9 and i’m still rockin the Smart Keyboard from my original iPad Pro 3 years later and aside from the slight greasy look to it, its held up perfect. Even despite my cat being a douche and using it as a scratching post one time
