Received my capital fm app and it states allows listening whilst using other apps excluding safari. So apple are opening the taps a little.

For anyone outside the uk the capital fm app is a live radio app.

Apps have been allowed to stream in the background by launching safari for a long time. There are many apps that do this.

It streams the audio via Safari (that's why you can't use Safari while its streaming). It's been possible to do that trick for a while. For example: listening to podcasts streamed off the BBC website in the background while using another app.

I wish Absolute Radio would tweak their app to do it too.

Don't know if this will work, but the Internet shortcuts I use for Absolute Radio using TuneIn Radio are these:

http://tuneinmobile.com/background....o 105.8&url=http://mp3-vr-128.as34763.net:80/

http://tuneinmobile.com/background....io 105.8&url=http://mp3-vr-32.as34763.net:80/

You should be able to save the shortcut to your Home Page and then use them whenever you want to.

p.s I highly recommend the TuneIn Radio app.
For £1.19 you can record!, rewind, play in background, view track and show details etc.

This is not a change. Safari has been able to stream mp4 streams in the background for a long time, and WunderRadio has been using this trick for quite a while. This doesn't mean Apple is allowing user apps to run in the background.

OoTunes does this too. It's been out for a while. There is only 1 way to get true multitasking and we all know what that is :)

I second this - it's got good search functionality, and gives direct access to certain podcasts as well. As it buffers, it also gives a better 'walking down the street' experience than others I've tried.

And on a JB phone with Backgrounding, you get true multi-tasking!

The first link works beautifully. Listening to Ian Dury and the Blockheads at 128K right now :D Thanks! I'll take a look at that app too.
