Apple stole my serial number!

Long story short, My iMac stuffed up not long ago so I sent it to Apple to get it fixed (Apple Store Chadstone), I called them a week later, and I’ve been told that they were still working on it. A few days later I called again, they finally found the issue (sort of) and decided to replace the logic board…..anyway, I said OK, they later called me back saying they have replaced it but a new problem occurred, the audio/speaker is not functioning etc… I said well I will just take it back and fix it myself because I need it for ‘work’, I took it back and this is what I found so far:
iMac’s serial number is gone!

Oh also, on the repair report paper, it says I purchased this iMac on March 11 2009(March 11 is my birthday BTW), but I actually bought it in Nov 2008, so according to Apple Store, my iMac is now officially out of warranty. (Apple has 1 year standard wty).

If you are thinking of buying a new Mac with AppleCare, think again.
 
I think you'll find that the printed receipt is using the m/d/y system that they use in the US. That would match with the date given to you by the site.
 
Uh...

Yeah, you bought on 11.3.2008. Countries use different date codes, buddy.

Your three month phone support is gone, but you still have AppleCare until Nov. What's the problem here?
 
I'm in Australia, Why the h*** do they use American format?!?!
Thats just stupid! They think everyone outside of the US uses the same weird format as them?!
 
Also why is it that it says 2008-11-03, but you said it says 2009-11-03?

I don't get it both ways..
 
BTW, the serial doesn't show up the one "about this mac" screen. You need to hit more info and the profiler opens showing the serial.

When they replaced the logic board, they forgot to use the serializer tool to re-burn the serial onto your new board. You'll have to take it back to them and explain that they forgot to update the serial.

Unless they replaced the logic board and failed to run the serial number.app and left it blank.

Not really a big deal, since it is the serial number elsewhere on the machine that can be used, which helps when the machine is dead.
 
just update the purchase date on that waranty screen click update fill out the form and fax the reciept to apple. they will change the date if you bought from an authorized reseller. Its five minutes of work and it takes about 5 days for the records to change.
 
If you have the original receipt or original proof of purchase of some sort, it doesn't matter what the computer reads or doesn't read. If you're really paranoid, go back to where the repair was done. This happens a lot to customers, About This Mac will be blank on the serial screen and System Profiler will also be blank. Good thing Apple has the serial number listed in more than one place. Your serial number is also located at the bottom of the base of the iMac. If that hasn't changed and it's the same serial number, that's all you need. Your warranty status has not changed.
 
You can "unofficially" download the serializer yourself and change your boards serial if you're really worried about it and are not near an apple store. But like iLog.Genius said, if the serial is still on the iMac physically there really isn't a reason to be worried about it.
