So i'm in need of the PowerMac. and my work is suffering because of it.
i call the apple store yorkdale, they only have kids there who know **** about ipods.

(heads up you must know i can't buy online because i don't have a huge credit limit, yes sad)

so the new PowerMacs come out and i call about them and they are picking there nose and have no idea what i'm talking about and tell me the 2.3 was discontinued, because the new computers have come out. So i say, um thats what i want the new 2.3 and she is like OH OH OH and she tells me they don't have them. So i say can i go on some waiting list and she says no cause they aren't starting one for that product because they have no idea when its coming in.

so i'm quite angry with the store, they seem really unhelpful and unknowledgable about their products.

I talked to another non apple store and again another kid looked at me like i was crazy when i said dual-core.

i want your money, if it makes you feel better

only advice i can think of is to be patient, and call the apple store back and ask for a manager- maybe try to explain the situation

Most managers dont inform there employees the second something new comes out. I doubt Apple sends out a mass email to all retailers the second something new comes out, and exactly when they'll get the product. Most people work at these stores to work there, and not because they love macs. I've called many places in the Toronto area asking about when they'll get the vid ipods they answer is in a couple of weeks or something. You just gotta be patient and wait till these new products actually hit retail.

when i called the apple store yesterday after the new powerbooks were released, a kid answered the phone after a 4 minute hold time and said, "thank you for calling the apple store. how can i assist you?" i asked him if they had the new powerbooks. he said in a very sarcastic tone, "we don't know anything about new powerbooks." i said, "why not? they are on your website right now." he said "uhhh, like i said, we don't know anything about any new powerbooks." at this point, i could not believe how he handled this situation so i decided to hang up. several hours later, i went to that SAME apple store, and they had both the new 15" and 17" available to buy in store.

we all have to remember...apple store employees are just another chain gang of retail workers and a few of them could give two sh**'s and a f*** about what you need/want. at least that is how i feel...

Boo hoo. You're fussing about a companies employees who are INSIDE A STORE DURING LAUNCH of a new product, and most of these employees, don't pay attention to rumor sites, and no one up above them has an idea what's going on because corporate doesn't tell them and so they cannot tell they're employees.

You honestly think Apple will tell it's retail employees about this stuff? Hell no. That's no way to keep a secret.

There's things out there BIGGER than you, so calm down. Jesus, when I had customers like you when I worked at Apple I would tell them to go buy a Dell. People, especially here in America, get so Godamn irratable when they can't get what they want when they want it.

It's called patience. But then again, that's probably a big reason why our world is so ******* up to begin with. No one has patience anymore.

Nice rant. I can understand Apple store employees not knowing anything about products before they come out, but you would think that someone would inform them about new products once they are announced. After all, they work in the store and it is their job to help customers purchase the products in the store. How can they do that if they know nothing about them? A little communication goes a long way.

I agree that the moment it's announced every employee should be aware. But that can't always happen, especially when you have 40 phone calls every ten minutes asking if you ahve the product. It's not a good excuse, but like others have said, most of these employees aren't Mac people in the first place (which I don't think they should be hired then).

I know everytime I have asked an employee at apple about "new" products they never have a definitive answer. One guy told me they don't know about newly released products until they are delivered or they are told/ read about newly realed products. I could see this though, how could one plan to keep a secret by telling every Apple store what they are gonna be releasing in the upcoming weeks... My opinion only, take it as you will.

a) Have you explained that it's a NECESSITY. ;)
b) How is them not knowing when the stock is due mean they don't know their product.
c) Buy online if you don't like dealing with people. If you don't have credit how do you plan to buy from the store? It's pretty hard to shoplift a PM.

Having worked retail I can tell you this.

The floor employees don't have all the answers because most of the time, managment doesn't have them either.

The magical "back room" does in fact run out of the stock as well. So your genius recommendation "oh did you check in the back?" has no value.

should that be an excuse for lack of professionalism? you are supposed to be an expert in what you are doing. if you don't want to be an expert don't work there, just leave. that doesn't mean you have to know everthing but it means you try to be excellent. that means when you sell apples you learn everthing about apples that you can. it's o.k. to not know everything. it's not o.k. to not even try.

that excuse "i don't know i just work here" just doesn't cut it. it's like "i don't know how to use that hose, i'm just a firefighter". ;)

Hey... I don't know where about's you are in Toronto, but I'd give Creative Technology a call. I just bought a computer from their Burlington store and they were great. I know they have a store in Toronto as well but I can't attest to their service there. If you want to check out their web site it's http://www.creativetechnology.ca

Couldn't you just buy one of those pre-paid credit cards and buy it online? I'm not sure but it sounds like a good plan.

Your comment may be general but if they refer to either the original post or that which you quoted you might want to go and re-read them. The original post rants not about a lack of product knowledge but just that they don't know when the product is going to arrive. What else can they say if they don't know?
The kid who didn't seem to know Apple's product worked in an unknown store. I'd not expect detail knowledge of every product from a Wal-Mart employee.

The end of this MAC STORY!!!!!

sooooooooooooooo.. i called the store thursday .. they said yes 2.3s are in stock. call the next day.. Nope that person lied to me. Thanks a lot apple store..

HOWEVER, REAL NICE EMPLOYEE who is so understanding even checked the sheet to see when stuff was coming in and 2.3 were not scheduled for next week.. This lady knew her stuff and double checked for me.

Explored with Visa to do something about prepaid visa.. she said nopes. guess in canada not yet with visa..

THEN asked friend to borrow credit card. Power Mac is ordered. gave her a check.

done done and done. 2.3 is preparing to be shipped.

should have done that earlier but i don't usually ask people for their credit cards to use.

THE END

This statement is "untrue." I once asked an employe at the Apple Store and other retail stores if they had a product in the back room that was not on the shelf, and they answer was "Yes."

Well its always a good idea to ask, I know it kinda sucks for the employee to hear that question all the time, however you can always inform the customer that "we do not have any stock in the back room." ;) :D

Seriously though 3 out of 5 times they do have stock in the back room, well that is my experience. :)
