Sorry if this has been posted, did a Mroogle search but couldn't find anything. Apparently the news is a couple months old, but this is the first I've heard for it.

Apple's Australian website lists Perth as an upcoming store and allows you to apply for positions (which I've clearly done ;)) already - doing a search around on the internet it looks like they're aiming for an early 2010 opening. No word on an actual location yet, although judging by the post code I'm guessing somewhere right in the CBD (St George's Terrace, perhaps?).

I'm hoping it's going to be more in that style then as a mere shop in a mall like many of the other Australian ones. In a setting like the Perth CBD one of the ultra-modern all-glass Apple Stores would be amazing.

I was thinking that Perth was too small for an Apple Store.

There isn't one in Edinburgh or Newcastle yet!

I know I'm bumping a 6-month old topic but I didn't really feel the need to open a new topic that had the same subject as one I had already made.

Looks like the store has been confirmed, and is set to be opened at 794 Hay Street (only half a block west of the Hay Street Mall). Funnily this one section along Hay Street is where I shop most of the time when I'm in that part of Perth, so I'm very familiar with the area. It's an existing building, so I'm guessing they're just going to renovate the hell out of it and make it Apple-esque, but considering it's location it seems like it's going to be more along the lines of a store like that at Robina as opposed to being like the one in Sydney.

On the really exciting side, I have an interview on Wednesday for a potential job there :D

ahh... this is some good news.

Its so annoying to always have to deal through apple resellers. Can't wait to be able to walk in to a store and get something fixed/replaced on the spot with out having to ship it off somewhere and having to wait weeks for it to get back.

Oh please, Perth is three times the size of Edinburgh or Newcastle, and it's loaded with mining money.
Newcastle has one, though it opened after you said that statement, but was confirmed around the time you said it. Also the Metro centre in Gateshead which is just over the river from Newcastle is getting one. I'm sure Edinburgh is surposed to be getting one later this year or next year aswell as Leeds.

I'll be down there this Saturday for the grand opening. Snap some photos for the forum.

Yeah I'm thinking of going. I've been going into the CBD every week or so to see what the progress of the store has been, when I was in there last Friday night (late night trading for the win) they were getting the delivery of the massive wooden benches that all the demo units sit on.

I think what happened was grantnw was talking about Perth, Western Australia (which this topic is about, and hence his 'mining money' comment), without realising that neiltc13 thought I was talking about Perth in Scotland. Confusing mistake.

My first visit to an Apple store was a very positive one. I had a hairline crack from top to bottom of my 3GS. I haven't dropped it, but non the less a crack. I walked straight in and to the back of the store, it was mega busy but got dealt with instantly by the genius know as Sam.

He was very helpful, I explained the situation, that the screen was cracked, not as the result of a drop but caused by an unknown issue.

The phone was inspected then in a bit more detail. I have dropped the phone before (most people have at least once) so there was a very small impact area at the top of the phone. At this point he told me it would cost $250, I really was not over the moon by this as I said I hadn't really broken it myself.

He then went and checked with a manager and he came over for a look himself. He also said the same, but confirmed that the impact point was not in the area of the screen crack and authorised a replacement there and then.

I now have a new (refurbished I guess) 32GB 3GS and I couldn't be happier with the service. Even on the opening day with all the people down there they came through. A security guard by the door even offered to guard my pushy whilst I was in the store.

I wonder how the local resellers will cope with this level of service rather than telling people a repair will take weeks. Nextbyte Look out.

5/5 keep up the good work.

Uh... well, our mean minimum temp for June is about 8 deg. Dipping below zero is unusual for Perth WA in June.

Having lived here all my life (so far) it's pretty odd, and is a change to the norm in recent years. This South West corner seems to be getting colder in winter months.

That said, I have to laugh when some European countries have a week of temps in the low 30 Deg C range and claim to be having a "heat wave", but I'd refrain from calling people "*******". Sheesh.

Back on topic, I've only seen news articles on the store so far.
