Not sure where to post this but this is quite interesting. Here is what the company store website looked back in 1997.

Nice find :D

They should open an Apple retro store like this for old time's sake.

1997... Man, I swear whenever I think of the internet back then I get nightmares of Geocities (pre-Yahoo!), blinking neon green text, and dancing babies.

Quite an upgrade? The page has almost no information anymore and only one picture of the store that doesn't really show what's inside.

If you click around the old one it even has a price list of stuff for Newtons. (Interestingly, the imac stand used to be a Netwon stand!!) :D

Yea, thinking about this, the old version of that page is way better and probably did a much better job at convincing people that they had to go see the Apple HQ store!

Ummm yea I'm pretty sure he meant an upgrade in aesthetics of the actual store, not the webpage. Besides that other link isn't even apple's website, it's just a site dedicated to old newton archives.

The aesthetics of the store haven't really changed at all lol. Did you look at the pics? Almost all of the furniture is still the same. It looks like they made the frame of the central cabinet a little thicker to match apple store tables, but the rest? Not much change. It's amazing how a little paint can make such a huge difference. :D

I always make a trip to the Company Store when I visit my parents in the Bay Area. Actually going there next week. I'd be happy to buy stuff for anybody who wants it. Shirts are about $20 I think and they also have mugs, water bottles and junk like that. Best thing from that store is the "I visited the mothership" shirt.

PM me if you want me to pick something up for you. Just pay for the item and shipping. I'll probably go next Tuesday.

Seeing as it's like an hour drive for me, I really am surprised I've been a Mac guy for 10 years and haven't bothered to go there yet. :D

I was there a few weeks ago. They have discontinued that shirt, they only had kids sizes left. The new shirt says "Designed by Apple in California".

Nice find, thanks for sharing. Cool piece of apple history.

Anyone know how much a Tshirt is? And if there's any way to get one other than going to San Francisco?

Each T-shirt is under $20
There are also hats, zipped long sleeve shirts with Apple logo, keychains, cups.

Cupertino is about 1 hour drive from San Francisco, and maybe 30 minutes drive from San Jose if there is no traffic.

Note VERY limited store hours, at least for those there on business. I got lucky on a business trip one day and was able to go in the afternoon otherwise count a long lunch + car.

And in 1999 Microsoft tried to open their own store, I wonder why?

Doesn't it say right on there that its the only way to get them?

You can get them on ebay, but I doubt they are the 'official' ones.

If they are from the likes of Vintage Micros then usually genuine, i got one and it's pretty cool as i'm unlikely to ever visit!
