By which you mean, you aren't near an Apple Store at the moment? Last I check they existed outside of the US.

If I were to guess, I'd say you can use any amount.

The limit is 8 cards per transaction. So you could use a single $2000 gift card to buy a MBP, but you could not use 10 $200 gift cards because that would exceed the limit of 8.
