G'day,

My dad's 2008 iMac is finally hopefully convincing him it's time to upgrade, thanks to a backlight dying.

I had been close to getting him to commit to buy a new iMac - before the new skinny jeans ones arrived.

I figured that there should still be some stock hanging around on the refurb page - but none... (AU store)

Not one refurb iMac, of any iteration...

Maybe I should go to JB Hi Fi or someone that's still got old stock... though I'm not sure how much longer he's going to insist that "I can still read everything on the screen!"...

*sigh*

Cheers

cosmic apple has not sold refurb iMacs from Apple AU for at least eight years. The last iMac I purchased had been used at Apple Head Office, Sydney, and sold to a dealer at North Sydney for resale. All the refurb store seems to handle are notebooks and phones.

have you considered used?

maybe there isn't as much of a used Mac market in au I don't know. but going from a 2008 you could probably do anything after say 2012 and it will be a vast improvement, and much cheaper

Ideally I was hoping to find a good quality 2015+ iMac. I figured the Apple Refurb would be safest option in terms of "things going wrong", although that said - nearly every Mac I've ever owned was second hand at purchase, and I've never had a lemon, including the 2004 and 2008 iMacs I purchased for dad.

The used market here is just as intense as anywhere I think. There's certainly a fair few options on eBay... I'll have to nail him down on a price range if taking that option, because he's not an eBayer - will be doing it on his behalf.

Something with an SSD installed would be ideal for performance.

I’m still using 2011 iMacs and thinking about getting something newer in the next year or two.
