Apple Store Sales Personel !!!!

I was at my local apple store today picking up supplies and I decided to take another look at the MBP's again. I was standing around waiting to look at the MBP's when I am listening to the sale rep talk to this guy who didnt know what a computer was or was playing stupid for the guy to get info, so anyways I am listening to this guy ask question my 8 year old neice could anwser and the rep was just giving him misimformed information. the guy was asking how to setup a wireless network in his house and the rep was telling him that the airport express would be good for a 3 lvl house (and the APE would be located in the basement of the house) I seriously had to restrain myself from just butting in and telling him what to get and how to install it.

the gentleman still has dial up and wanted to know if he could get info on a wireless service provider.

has anyone ever had this happen to them or been around in a apple store when this is going on. I even might have heard one other guy talking about how the mac OS doesnt have viruses like windows does there it is more stable, now to me this is misleading and yes mac is more stable than windows both have there drawbacks and faults and as for the virus thing I dont think he was completely honest as a sales person (if I heard right).

Well, I can't speak for the Airport Express, but the virus thing is true. 0 viruses in the wild for OS X. None. Zip. Lovely, ain't it?

However, I definitely have been around misinformed staff at computer stores. Usually it's not too bad at the local dedicated Mac stores. But go to a dealer that's a general electronics store that has the Macs in a corner, they don't have a clue about the system.

I took my gf to DSW shoes yesterday and had to find something to do while she enjoyed her orgasmic trek through 15,000 square feet of shoes.

Walked across the street to Best Buy and was hanging out in the laptop section. Walked over to the Sony's and was listening to a rep try to sell someone a Sony SZ (which I just happened to get from my company). I was astounded at the misinformation the rep was providing...

Customer: How much RAM does it have?

Rep: 1GB but you'll probably need 2 for fast Internet surfing.

Customer: I will be using it hotels and not all have wireless access.

Rep: There's no Ethernet port on the laptop so you need the docking station for that. You also want it to hook up an external monitor.

Customer: Will it work with my iPod?

Rep: Depends on which model you have. It definitely works with the newest models we have.

Rep walks away and I walk over to the guy. Tell him I got one 2 weeks ago and it's a very nice and fast laptop. Told him 1 GB RAM was fine for what I heard he would be doing and it would work with his iPod (nano); all he would need to do is download iTunes. Pulled down a little door on the side of the laptop to reveal the Ethernet and modem ports. Then showed him he external monitor port on the back.

The guy started laughing and thanked me. Rep came back and told him it was in stock. The customer said he'd take it for $200 less than advertised since he'd been given a lot of misinformation and felt as if he was being sold add-ons he didn't need or want. Rep argued that was not so and customer asked for manager.

Manager came and customer related story and I sat there nodding. He countered with $100 off plus a free Targus case that was on sale for 30 bucks. Guy said he'd think about it and walked out.

yeah I guess the biggest thing for me is when your a consumer and your trying to do research and trying to find out as much about a product before buying it it doenst help getting wrong information when asking about the product. I have been almost a year wanting and waiting for the right time to buy a mac, everytime I am at my freinds house on the weekends watching sporting events or whatever I am always playing around with his powerbook and learning as much as I can and doing my own research before I buy my own.

and the virus thing is true so that blows me away I guess hackers get more kicks out of distroying micro$oft machines which is ok by me more power to them if they leave the MAC OS alone .

Aha, i guess he was just trying to 'do his thing'. Everyone needs money to live, even if it means they have to cheat at a job interview.

It happens with a lot of tech salespeople methinks, just that we expect higher standards from Apple.

Well theres a pc world advert going around that says with core duo 'You can do things like downloading email and uploading tunes!" I understand that you can download email attactments and what not but I'm pretty sure uploading music is illegal? and the dude who says it looks like a sill pret who knows nothing.

Well to start off you don't need a duo core system to do that. Regarding uploading tunes, it depends. With the students there i got the impression it was in the context of uploading their own tunes they made.
